Ramping slow to fast motion

I am looking for a way to start a clip with slower motion then abruptly switch to fast motion. I know that through using the right click I could change the speed and duration of the clip. But I am looking to see if there is a way to key frame the speed of the clip. I shot 30p with a shutter of 120 and I'm using PP 2.0.
Thanks,
Alex

i know you can do that in AE...i have premiere 6.5 and that's something that can't be done. in 6.5, but i don't know about PPro. is it called time remapping? if it is look for that, if not, i think it's something like that.

Alex,

You can't do that in Premiere, as far as I know. You can sort of fimulate ramps, by cutting a clip into a few segments and setting them each to a progressively slower motion, maybe 75%, then 50%, then 25%, etc. I have done this a number of times, and it's good enough to get you by.

nope joshua is right it's still something that can't be done in premiere, but it is possible in AE.

I also use the cut/speed change method to simulate ramps. It works best when you go in order- so that you adjust speed on the clip, then cut where you want it to get faster, and adjust speed on that next chunk, and so on. That way the cut points line up. It's a pain in the butt to change, but if you are pretty sure of what you want, it'll look good.

Thanks guys. That is what I was afraid of. Seems like a pretty effect that a NLE should be able to handle. I wonder why it isn't available.

A plugin called Twixtor 4.5 can do this (speed ramping) and it also does the most amazing slo mo.

Beware : its pricey.

Twixtor is pricey and damn hard to fully understand. Retimer is way easier and same results!

Thanks guys. I might have to play around in after effects. Twixtor could be a down the line solution. The effects look pretty good.

Twixtor is twicky to get workin.
You could enable time remapping in aftereffects and try that. It kind of does this foward reverse go foward slower kind of thing but I bet it will do what you want it to with some experimenting.

Thanks Aram. I'm going to have to some after effects time in. The program does some crazy stuff. It'll have to be after Herofest though.

i actually did this in premiere pro 1.5.

im not sure about older versions, but if there is a control to adjust speed, you can do it.

- get the clip...slice it into 2 parts
- make the first part one speed and the second part the other speed

it works and it looks fine to me

the sad thing, i moved from vegas, and yesterday was working on a red bull commercial and realized that premiere pro 2 didn't have this option, as opposed to vegas which did. i was pretty pissed, but did it the way everyone's saying, cut it into segments, which worked perfectly fine.
