any way to run Animation codec smoothly?

I recently keyed out a green screen in Final Cut and exported the file with the quicktime animation codec (so I can preserve the alpha channel) ...but when I import that into After Effects or Motion, it runs very choppy; and I'm so frustrated working with this file as it's slowing down my workflow.

I am running a Quad G5 with 4 gigs of ram + a Raid 0 firewire 800 drive.

Is there any way to to run a Quicktime Animation file smoothly? any settings I can try or do I need some additional hardware? thanks

Animation files are much larger than DV files. Coems down to system bus speed and your drive and drive bus. (in this case firewire)
Programs like AE can process and load into RAM for close to realtime playback.

yeah, I know they are very large files... ...so basically my system is fast enough - it's just the firewire 800 hard drive that is the problem? Do you think if I installed a SATA RAID 0 system it would run smoothly?

any suggestions are greatly appreciated - thanks

If you have some room on your internal drive try copying some files and playing from there to get an idea of the speed difference.
With a G5 tower you can place a pretty large drive in as your second drive and there are means of getting 4 or 5 drives in the machine.
