My powerbook is struggling with DVCPRO HD...

I have a 1.67 ghz powerbook. It played and worked fine with dvcpro hd before, but now its struggling on playback... I didn't had to render anything when printing to video, but now I have to wait 33 minutes!

I can only guess something is wrong... What should I do? Do a complete format of the disk and install everything from scratch?

How full is your hard drive?
When my hard drive gets close to full, I start having problems.

Might also have issues if using an external FireWire drive. If you don"t got one u should buy 'n' back-up before even mentioning the 'f' word

Yes, I believe that's the problem... I also think my internal disk is incredibly fragmented... Is there any disk defragmenter for the Mac? Free, in preference?

Not a defragmenter pre se, but a tool that no Mac owner should be without is Disk Warrior (not free though). DW has saved my butt on too many occasions. It will help you out if you decide to go for it.

Do any of you Mac guys know what Repairing Permissions does ? It's located in the disk utility and I was told it's similar to defragging. Maybe that would help?

Without going into too much of a Unix explination, Repair Permissions makes sure that all of the systems files have the correct access settings. read, write, etc. General paranoid Mac practices say that Repair Permissions should be done after any program installation. It is not similar to defrag.
