24 hour Video Race DALLAS ENTRY

Was there a theme, prop, character, or line you had to work with?

The interlacing hurts my eyes. :)

I thought this was pretty cool. The interlacing is off the hook. Is that from the shooting or encoding?

A couple of nice touches:

-Him chasng the guy, and then seeing the SHADOW of the ax in the back.
-The girlfriend opening the door to reveal the action in the hall.

A couple of problems for me: From a purely logical standpoint, I didn't understand quite what the deal was. All of her ex-boyfriends were there? Why? I just didn't get what the basic situation was.

Also, It wasn't clear to me from the shots that the main guy was with the girl. What I mean is, you open with a single wide shot, but I think you could have chosen some shots to get across that this guy is with this girl. I didn't really get that until a little ways in, when he says: "You dated all of these guys." I guess it's a thing about character entrances. She was pretty much not there until that moment.

I think the ending was a cop-out. I would have left it. But, in the case that you did leave it, you would have to hide the guys better. Otherwise, her not seeing them makes her look stupid.

Anyway, cool work.

Hey guys, I'm glad you watched it.

The interlacing was most likely the encoding of the file to the server. It didn't look like that when we had to dub it out.

As for the theme, prop, line of dialogue and location:

Theme: Cover story
Prop: A measuring device (in this case, the measuring glasses)
Line of Dialogue: That's what I'm talking about.
Location: Statue of public art work

desperatecomfort, as for all the things you mentioned, we had all those shots, but since we only had 5 minutes, we figured that the basic story (a guy meets his girls old bf's) was more important than the other shots to get the story in place.

we had a whole opening sequence that we had to cut because we didn't have enough time. basically we just wanted the main guy to get annoyed by the other characters and kill all of them. yes, the ending was a cop-out, but there was nothing else we could do...the basis of the story was for the main guy to give his gf a cover story to the deaths of her friends, hence us being "hidden"

anyways, i appreciate your guys' comments. we have our screening tomorrow, we'll see how we do!

i liked how you shut the lights off and dollied in to change the mood of the scene. cool idea for that story. what is your team name and when does your video play? me and my friend did a video in the auteur division. our team is called on the line films. we play wednesday at 7pm if you're going to be out there. good job.

hey man, thanks for the comments, i truly appreciate them. our team name is Redundant Films Productions, we play on wednesday at 6:15 (or a little after, we are number 4 to go). good luck to your film. I don't know if i'll be able to make it because I work tomorrow...i don't think i can even see ours on the big screen...i hope all goes well for you and just remember to have fun, i truly believe that's the key to having a good film (along with people knowing what they are doing)

good stuff man compared to all the others. i think our video was similar that they both need a longer cut to work right... but ya know, thats not the point of the race. they would rather see some horrible videos that utilized the 4 things more gratuitously i guess. alot of horrible videos made it to the finals last night... what a shame. either way, it was good times.

So, how did you place in the race? I worked on a team last year (2005) but the editing computer (mac) crashed FC (the free version? not pro) at hour 22 or so. Did not make it, and still have not seen the final cut if it ever got done. I was considering doing it this year but was too busy. Was suprised when I watched yours as one of my actors (no dialouge) in a short I shot the last weekend of April was in yours.
