HVX in Pelican 1510 *pic

In all seriousness, here are some new photos to prove I'm not crazy. This isn't a joke. I bought the 1510, and the first pic is accurate. I feel like Henry Gale in LOST who can't get anyone to believe him. Only he was lying, I'm telling the truth.

I don't know what more I can do here. If people want to come by my house. See it for themselves. Let me know.

You can do one more thing. Turn the damn foam not to rest your camera lens facing down when you walk with it. Let it lens facing up! :)

taubkin,

You bring up yet another thing to worry about. Which way the lens in facing when you are walking with it, which is also the same configuration if you are using the second handle or storing it lengthwise upright.

I was about to flip the foam so I could have the bottom of the camera facing the right way (toward the spine), as well as give me the strap side up for easier functionality, which would give me this:

hvxhandleup.jpg

I thought i had found a winner with that. BUT NOW, as you are saying, the lens is facing down when using the other handles. So I have to turn the foam again, only this time it is impossible for me to have the strap up, so I have to turn it strap down like this:

hvxp2up.jpg

As i see it, there is NO WAY to have the all 3 "right" ways at once. 1) Having the bottom face the spine so it stores upright, 2) Having the lens face up when using the other case handles, and 3) having the strap up for ease of functionality. You have to give up one of them. Strap up seems like the least necessary of the three. I don't know though. We're all just overreacting probably.

isn't the hand-held strap on the HVX attached to the tape door too ?(like the DVX)...i wouldn't be using that to pick it up by anyways, especially given the resistance of pulling it out of the foam...i have my DVX in a 1550, and even tho it sits "strap up" i never pick it up by it...i reach down thru the handle and pick it up by the body...

just my .02

i guess if its an HVX who cares about tapes, right? just don't stick your gum in the P2 drive :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Funny pictures.

One question for anybody who cares to answer it.

Why must the lense face up? Does it really make a difference?

Your last picture is the one I'd go for. But we're overreacting. Those cases are bulletproof, and it's impossible for your camera to be harmed in it, even in less than ideal conditions or abuse. :)

Cheers!

From what I can gather fro the few threads on cases. The smallest Pelican case that a HVX will fit might be the 1550? See here.
The 1550 is smaller than the 1510 right?

I saw Jared post somewhere that it fits in a 1450? Can anyone confirm this, or have a photo?

I find the pelican model numbering a bit confusing in terms of what is bigger or smaller than others.

I'm basically after the smallest Pelican case for an HVX. All my accessories go in another case.

How about the 1520?

If i can throw my 2 cents in....probably this thread started as a 1st of april joke...but it definitly doesnt fit as much in the peli 1510 as was shown on the pics..!(no p2 store etc.)-but the cam fits definitly in the 1510, cause i got it in there..anyway, theres not much more space left for other things(beside some p2 cards..) so you should keep this in mind!

But anyway i am happy with it and i already used it IN an airplane..no propblem with tha air legal size...!

This is a Pelican 1510 . . . I bought it because it was advertised as the largest case that was still a legal carry on (have not fitted the foam yet):

Note the available space . . .

You can always ask to just leave the cam up front with the stewardess. They have largers storage bins somewhere up there. I've done it before with "slightly" oversised cases.

I got a 1510 yesterday, the other alternative I had considered was the 1520.
I must say I'm a bit dissapointed with the pull up trolly pulling thing it has. Its a bit flimsy in my opinion considereing the build quality of the rest of it.

Took me half a day to pluck the mothercruncher too!! (I've not had a pelican before, theres a bit of a knack to it)

Here's the HVX with P2Store, P2Cards, 4 Panasonic Batts (5400s / 2500s), Charger in the Hardigg im2500 case. Lens is oriented up in this case, which is the largest airline reg. carry-on available.

Overland,

Did you pluck entirely throught the first 3 layers so that only the fourth thinner layer is left between the camera and the back of the case wall? I am curious as to how deep you went.

Case

I was forced to check my DVX in a little 1520 many a time. The outside of the case took a beating, the camera was never disturbed. I even had synthetic silk lining for it, was really nice.

Is I think my final choice. I've carried enough shi* in my life, from now on it rolls or it doesn't come with me. :P

Super cheap (the soft cases are an absolute fortune) and you can literally stand on it without doing any damage to the camera. It will also fit a camer with rails and a matte box, the last thing I want to do is constantly pop off the chrosziel.

Problem is, you have to check it if you fly. If I flew constantly I probably wouldn't buy it, but I don't, so it's worth it.

And just in case you're thrown off the side of a cruise liner with your camera:

"Floats in salt water with 120 lb (54.4 kg) load"

I shi* you not :)

I need a case for my camera. Question is, Pelican 1510 or Storm iM2500?

The Storm is about $15 more. Any reason I should prefer that one?

Does anyone have the Zacuto foam instert in their case? It is for a pelican 1650 and can store the hvx with baseplates and matte box attached to the camera. Pricey at 195$, but looks very professional.

I bought the Zacuto foam a few weeks back. In talking with their representative I realized it would'nt cost much more to ship (due to size) the foam with a case wrapped around it . . . ended up with the Storm 2950, it's cavernous! Of course it can't be carried on but I have no worries about breaking anything inside of it.

Anyone remember those old Samsonite commercials?
