Underwater Housing to Crane Mount?

The opening shot of my movie calls for a wave to crash over the camera and then raise to over 20 feet in the air. Is there a mount of some kind that will allow me to mount to the housing to the crane?

punkman, you must have alot of coin. go check out hydroflex. ggogle for website. you can mount this housing on a crane to achieve your shot. I have used this setup many times and it is time consuming and expensive. lol

your grip will mount you in less than 15 minutes.. all you need is a few superclamps and some hex mounts and your set.

Mate,

What housing are you using?..

If you look at my housing in the pic below, its very easy to mount onto anything almost. See that handle on the side? Well that attaches to 2 short 1/4inch bolts about 15mm long which are fixed into the base of the housing.

Surely your housing would have something like this?...

How do you propose to clear all of the water drops off of the housing in front of the lens port once it breaks the surface? Or perhaps the wter drops on the lens wouldn't matter within the context of your script?

As you know, there are spinning lens setups for when you shoot in rain or spray but none of those would work coming out of water, mounted on an underwater housing.

I haven't decided on a housing yet because I'm trying to find that has the tripod screw hole on it.....

I never even thought of this. I guess I'll have to figure out something.

Yeah, very true..... if my grips knew what those were..... All of my crew is coming from a Preforming Arts High School, so at most they've been on a film set 4 times.....

Perhaps some Rain-X or something like that on the housing lens port? I would definitely speak with whomever you will be renting the housing from, I would think that they might have some ideas as a camera going from underwater to above water is a fairly common occurence in surf videos.

Best,

Dan

Mate,

Forget Rain-X or any other method to solve your water on the lens port problem...

Saliva is by far the best method. First thing, dunk your housing in the water, the spit heaps on the port. Rub it in with your finger in a circular motion, then dunk it under water again. Spit again on th port, rub it in then dunk it under water again... Do this 4-5 times at least, until your lens port is nice & clear..

Then just before your about to roll tape, dunk it under water again and when you pull it up the lens port will almost certainly be clear & bead free! Its a method i've used for years now & has never failed me... the trick is to this method 4-5 times before you use like I mentioned...

In any other context somebody telling an HVX user to spit on their camera would be drawn into the street and beaten with firewire cables.
