Help, getting a popping noise in soundtracks

Hello:

I am having trouble when i applying soundtracks to my video projects, i get a popping/clicking noise in the background volume. When i remove the soundtrack (windows media player-wav- multipble songs tried) the noise is gone. Under my master control it shows the audio at a good level, nothing in the red zone and next to nothing in the yellow and when i turn it even downier (the soundtrack volume bar also) i still can hear the popping sound. The popping/clicking noise stands out alot when played on loud speakers, when i make a dv tape copy of my project it stands out the most (does not sound that bad in dvd format, but i have to use tape to submit this project this time) and the popping noise shows up when played in the vegas timeline. My default project audio settings are stereo, 44100(hz), 16 bit would that mean anythingIf anyone knows of any sugestions/thoery's/ideas of how to fix or improve this problem please respond to this post.

Thank you.

Back in the old days - this sort of thing was caused by the way different sound cards accessed memory. I use a hammerfall card, and I was having trouble with video popping and stuttering; I was also having trouble with quicktime audio stuttering. But they updated the drivers and everything works fine now.

My suggestion is to look to the soundcard that you are using and make sure your drivers are the newest ones out there.

Thank you for replying miltlee. If i had a bad soundcard would that be one reason why the audio would sound bad whenever i print to a tape?

sometimes this happens when your project is running at 48khz, and the clip you brought in is at 44.1

make sure its the same, if its not, use wavelab or comparable software to bump it up to 48.
