There are alot of obvious ones, but I'm going a little deeper.

In no order

Mean Streets
I Went Down
Gangster #1
Miller's Crossing
Snatch
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Layer Cake

Without a shadow of The Godfather part 2. Please don't mention part 3 i think the whole of America should apologise for part 3, the same way canada apologised for Bryan Adams.

I'm assuming this only means the gangsters/hitmen dressed in suits. From the ones I've seen and can remember...

1. Scarface
2. Goodfellas
3. Sonatine
4. The Godfather
5. The Killer
6. Once Upon a Time in America
7. Carlito's Way
8. Brother
9. King of New York
10. Ghost Dog

Now, if we were talking all sorts of gangstas (in no order)...

American Me
Bonnie & Clyde
Colors
City of God
Blood In Blood Out
Menace 2 Society
Tongs
Belly
Boys In The Hood
...

i actually agree 100% with Callaghan's list. that's seriously my top 10 in order... wow great minds eh Callaghan?

The "old" gangster movie were never my favorites. I preferred film noir. It was really The Godfather that brought me around to gangster movies, so most of mine are fairly "recent."

01 Once Upon a Time in America
02 Godfather
03 Godfather II
04 GoodFellas
05 Donnie Brasco
06 Scarface - Brian DePalma's version..."say hello to my little friend..."
07 Miller's Crossing
08 On The Waterfront
09 Godfather III
10 Key Largo

I just am not seeing Pulp Fiction as a gangster movie.

01 The Godfather II
02 Goodfellas
03 The Godfather
04 Scarface
05 The Untouchables
06 Jackie Brown
07 Casino
08 True Romance
09 Mean Streets
10 Donnie Brasco

Honorables

- The Godfather III
- The French Connection
- L. A. Confidential

I confess; I have never seen it! ( I will now though!)

Now, if we were talking all sorts of gangstas (in no order)...

Colors
Menace 2 Society
Boys In The Hood

Gangsters not gangstas.

Holy ****!!! I am shocked beyond words. Of all people I would have never figured that you hadn't seen it.

EDIT: There's a lot of overlap in our lists, although I didn't include Jackie Brown because I considered that more of a caper movie. I probably should have included Casino, though. Mean Streets, while a ground breaking movie was a near miss for me. I really liked it but not Top 10 gangster movie for me.

John, John, John,

Where's Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America?
Leone shoulda stuck to Westerns in my book. In that arena he was a rock star. I liken it to like Michael Jordan's crack at playing baseball...somewhat intriguing to see what he does with it, but it wasn't even poo pooing close the same as watching him on the court.

Now substitute the word America for West (as in Once Upon a Time in the West) and we'll talk...

Once Upon a Time in the West is my favorite Leone film. I was blown away by Once Upon a Time in America, though. They are my two favorites by him, in that order. Then you get into his "other" Spaghetti Westerns.
