Video and Sound are ALWAYS Unsynced!

I have the DVX-100a and use FCP HD 4.5

I have had this problem off and on for a long time. At first I thought that my tapes had just been in the sun too long or that I was trying to edit 24pa footage on the wrong editing track (DV NTSC 48 khz). I'm not sure what the problem is?? is it my camera? Tapes? Editing system/setup/preferences????

Are you editing on a 24 frame timeline?
Do you remove the 2:3 pulldown when you capture?

I dont think the tapes would be the problem here. I would check all of your settings and make sure you are editing in the 23.98 fps environment

No, a normal 30 frame time line.
Where would I set the 2:3 pulldown? I thought the pulldowns had 4 numbers in them?
At any rate, this problem happens even when am shooting 60i on my DVX.

For 60i capture and edit at normal 29.97. No pulldown involved. No 24 involved.

Make sure to playback though the same system for video and audio. Either computer OR firewire, not both. If you have computer playing audio and firewire playing out video to a monitor then they will be out of sync.
If that's not the case:
Make sure you have enough disk space and memory.
Avoid Capture now.
Turn off other programs.

That is not the case. I capture footage onto my computer. I unplug the camera and firewire and take them completely away. What I am left with is captured footage with the video and sound unsynced by like a second or two. Help anyone?!

In the DVX 100 and ?maybe? the
100a, isn't there a 2 frame audio lag when shooting 24p? or pa?
which occurs for the same reason that there is a lag in auto focus ... namely that teh camera actuall runs at a slower power rate to get the slower frame rate.

I think this is the case and not sure if it has been corrected for the A or the B or if that's just the way it works

most people never notive it and its easy to fix by cut and pasting or dragging the audio 2 frames up or 2 frames back .... I forget which.

but if its very noticable and actually a second or two off, then that's just wierd.

What is the audio setting of your footage in your camera? I bet it's not matching the set-up in FCP.

Have you checked to make sure that the external vido is turned off? That can offset your audio, though I've never seen it to the extent you're describing.
