Last American Titanic Survivor Dies at 99

I encourage long winded thoughts ! It means you have something to say.

But first:

Rose going down into the catacombs of the ship to find Jack as it was sinking and just happening to find the room where Jack was handcuffed to a fixture.

I must point out that she asked Mr. Andrews where the Master of Arms would take a prisoner and she was given specifc instructions on how to get to this location.

ROSE
Mr. Andrews, thank God! Where would the Master at Arms take someone under arrest?!

ANDREWS

What? You have to get to a boat right away!

ROSE

No! I'll do this with or without your help, sir. But without will take longer.

ANDREWS

(beat)

Take the elevator to the very bottom, go left, down the crewman's passage, then make a right.

ROSE

Bottom, left, right. I have it.

ANDREWS

Hurry, Rose.

Now that being said; I loved the bad guys ! Billy Zane was wickedley perfect. I mean, you really hated the guy. And Rose's mother was just a *****, wasn't she ?

I found Titanic to be a perfect film (Leaning on the popcorn side of course) but no less just flat out awesome. The FX ? We could spot them, but the audience couldnt I would guess.

Aggh !

Have you seen A Night to Remember, Hudson? Be curious what you think of it, given that you like Titanic so much.

As you know I am a hardcore classic film addict...

That being said, Titanic is leagues and leagues beyond A Night To Remember in every conceivable aspect. Cameron's opus, as Hudson said, is just great storytelling.

We have debated the merit of this film many times, and I'll quote myself from this thread, http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=36711&highlight=titanic , which easily is the best (and most heated) discussion on the film yet...

I think Cameron's film was masterfully executed. Honestly I am surprised to hear some of the criticisms that I do hear about it (not at all directed solely at those posted in this thread.) The individual viewpoints represented in Titanic (especially the much-blasted love story) are what allowed the audience to be emotionally vested in the historic moment...

...I have read several books on Titanic, including the actual transcripts from the hearings surrounding the incident. Although an interesting read, the official accounts would have made a rather sterile film. I think enough historic persons were portrayed on screen, to give it realism...but I side with Hollywood in the heated "History vs. Hollywood" battle. For History belongs on cable television.
But that is an argument for another day (rather for another thread.)

Titanic

Well, as the Dude says: "Yeah...and that's just like your opinion, man..." :)

I don't think Night to Remember is the greatest film ever. But I stand by my opinion that in every way that counts, it is better than Titanic: Character and Story.

Ah shoot, CallaghanFilms, too bad you're not in NYC. I posted another thread about Film Forums's month and a half of Noir. We're going to our first double feature Thurs night. Real B-reel stuff too. Totally fun.

Dammit, I dig screenings like that...you know I'd be all over it! New York is most defiantly an ally to the classic film buff.

Wow, you really know that film, Hudson!! I didn't remember that. I guess I was too alienated to be paying close attention by that point!!:) :)

I do know the film; love it, own it.

But I see your point and where you are coming from. But I'm with Cally; Titanic rules.
