Top 10 Films of 1993...

1993...

We lost one of the screen's finest ladies in Audrey Hepburn - It was the year of The Wackos in Waco - Spielberg broke his own box office record (for E.T.) with the release of Jurassic Park.

Like '93, it was a year for new classics...

I think Schindler's List should have won the academy award, and I really liked it a lot. But for me, Tombstone just nudged it out by a hair.

How ya figure Fiennes' was a leading role over Liam's?!

That's an interesting question and I thought hard about it. It was a tight call

I just am mesmerized by Fiennes performance in this film. Liam is a stud; I love him, but he played Liam (Which is always great).

On a further note; Ben Kingley's performance was a stunning as the others, don't you think ?

1- Carlitos Way
2- A bronx tale
3- Shindlers List
4- Jurassic Park
5- Army of Darkness
6- Grumpy old men
7- Mad dog and glory
8 Gettysburg
9- Groundhog day.
10- The Piano

Of course...and in fact I had Ralph originally as Best Supporting.

...that was before I realized that while I was adjusting the sequence of my list, I somehow erased Tombstone. Then I had to edge him out for Doc "You're-A-Daisy-If-Ya-Do" Holliday. That is the ****ing role of Kilmer's life...& he'll never top it.

10. The Sandlot

One of my all time favorite films as a kid. Very quotable. Good fun and entertaining as hell. I LOVE this movie.

9. Rudy

One of the first films to ever make me cry. You know what I'm talking about. Every time I watch this with my friends, every single one of them "just has something in their eye". Classic.

8. Philadelphia
philadelphia.jpg

The only film to make me weep my eyes out for an embarrasing amount of time. When Neil Young starts singing and the home videos start playing...oh god, thinking about it gets me a little choked up. If you didn't cry at the ehnd of this, you are NOT human!

7. Trois couleurs: Bleu

Beautiful film. Top notch cinematography and brilliant peformance by Binoche. Very depressing, but damn, I just adore it. Kieslowski's the man.

6. Tombstone
doc_wasnt.jpg

Four words: "I'll be your Huckelberry."

One of the greatest westerns of all time, and one of the most underrated and underappreciated performances of all time. Kilmer owned.

5. Sonatine

Yeah. No ones probably seen this (maybe except for Spidey). His names Kitano. Takeshi Kitano. God among directors. He also acts. No, I don't mean like Tarantino acts. The man can ACT. Not his best film ( I think Vioent Cop), but damn great.

4. Jurassic Park

Do I need to say anything? This was my childhood. My King Kong. My life.

3. A Perfect World
kevin_costner_perfect_world_8.jpg

I brought up this film in a thread a while back. Clint's best (as director) and certainly Costner's best. Absolutely pitch perfect in every conceivable way. Probably the greatest scene I have ever watched (second only to Saving Private Ryan, with the german soldier and Mellish) is near the end with the Cleavland family. If you've seen this, you know what I'm talking about. Brilliant.

2. Groundhog Day
groundhog%20day.jpg

Timeless. Murray kills. Awesome screenplay. Beautiful message. Laugh out loud funny. It's just one of those movies that doesn't get old no matter how many times you watch it. Without a doubt my favorite comdey of all time. It's that damn good.

1. A Bronx Tale
Bronx_tale_1.jpg

De Niro's directorial debut, adapted by and from Chazz Palminteri's brilliant play, who also stars. Kind of feels like a Scorsese movie at times, and thats a good thing. Wonderful performance all around. Unforgettable. I've probably seen this film at least 30 times. You won't be dissapointed.

Ain't it the truth. It's probably my favorite Kurt Russell part, too. (As well as: Michael Biehn and Powers Boothe)

And how about that confrontation between Russell and Billy Bob Thornton in "The Oriental".
