Litepanels on Extreme Home Makeover Show

I have one of the VIDLED daylight LED lights with the dimming option and I've been really impressed with it. I would be curious to see the two compared side by side... but man there's sure no comparison in price! The VIDLED came so well packed that it blew my mind... the front face of it was encased in a rubber-type material which ensures that the surface of each LED will be absolutely virgin perfect until you peel off the material. Then each component is in a kind of screw-down tube... I can't describe it well in words, but it's very trick... all together I was quite impressed. The first night I got this thing I just played around with it all night like a toy rather then a tool. There's a digital guage that indicates charge... and it's got an analog dial on it... digi-analog... really cool looking. Even the charger is slick... there's an LED on the charger that changes from red to orange to yellow to green to indicate the battery status. There's no denying that the light panels look nice, but this VIDLED was pretty inexpensive in comparison... and I'm excited to have such a portable on-cam light in my bag... there's no doubt that this thing will be saving shots that would have otherwise been lost.

After price comparsion and realizing that they are all LED's that for the coin I went with the Vidled. I purchase the CoolLED and I got some gels to control the LED's. I am pleased with it. The light is compact, dimmable, and works great. All in all I am backing up Matt on this it's a all around great little light.

The Zylights aren't "bulb" type LEDs but their own design, which packs more elements into a smaller space:

Their light is a fantastic feat, and they were very clever to hook up with Color Kinetics to do their control for them.
But they use a Lamina Ceramics RGB LED engine (total ~310lm), not "their own". It takes MILLIONS of dollars to develop such a LED engine, something that would NEVER be recouped by selling a few on-cam video lights.
By the way, we will be offering a new LED light in a few months that uses LAMINA's 5500K or 4300K LED engine of same dimensions that put out more than 500lm, and they will include a rechargeable li-ion battery. They'll have to be diffused with a softbox though, if used with persons in front of the light, as they are way too bright to look at.
We've tested the prototypes last year, and they will be a nice addition, albeit not as inexpensive as our current lights.

By the way, thanks for all the positive feedback, Mick, Matt, et al.

Thanks for the clarification.

LOL, I was gonna say... "It's only a model", then I saw the next pictures on their site. This is a great looking fixture. My problem with LitePanel is the form-factor - I don't really want a big broad mounted on top of the camera. These look much more like a conventional on-camera light to me.
