Trailer 2...

I'm officially very excited by the quality of the Genesis footage. Hope Brian has helped bring this camera some much deserved attention.

Panavision Australia has extensive articles on Genesis and the Hylen selective focus device on their site.

So . . .

Is this supposed to be in quasi-continuity with the Reeve films?

'Coz I just see a bunch of people pretending to be other actors. Including, sadly, Spacey.

But it looks very nice.

Dunno, but it seems like this film is meant to address somehow the huge gap in between Reeves and this most current outing. Spacey appears to be a much more formidable wackjob of a Luthor than the Hackman - Beatty pairing from the 70s.

I believe it's supposed to take place between 2 and 3. Which makes very little sense because the guy they got to play SM is younger than Reeves was at that time. (Or maybe I just hate Routh.)

There's so many things that I hate about this movie, in principal. But you simply cannot deny how awesome the trailers have been looking.

EDIT: This trailer is pretty crappy, I meant that visually it's been looking great.

I'm not buying Spacey as Lex (I think Hackman was totally doable another go-around) and I am loving JW's Score!)

I'm sorry, when he goes to rescue that airplane, all I can think of is Edna Mode's speech about how she never puts capes on costumes.

Oh man... this movie just doesn't seem like it'll work... the trailer looked nice, and the effects were good... but what's the story???

terribly... it's like a bad redone version of Superman, even using the same music... weird.

That's my reservation as well. I personally know two of the writers who've worked on this thing over it's long and tortured life, and by the time it made it to the screen, it's just had like a million hands on it. So though I hope it turns out all right, and what you're seeing is just a bad trailer...I dunno.

I geared up for it, and I like the borrowing from Donner's Superman (one of my all time favorite films), but if I have to sit through another superhero movie where they complain about how hard it is to be a superhero (e.g. Spiderman 2) I'm going to be very upset. :(

Overlad, there's no need to wait for bits and pieces of SR to see Genesis footage. Just watch Scary Movie 4 :)

wtf?

this really doesnt look that great.

it doesnt look real...none of it feels grounded at all. i never really liked the way the xmen movies looked...and this takes it over the top. everything feels phony. the sets, the acting, the lighting.

everything is kinda too super. everything feels over the top/fake. so when yo introduce superman, it kinda doesnt stand out againts it all.

i dunno...not feelin it.

They're modelling it after Rebecca so the aesthetic referent isn't realism but Classical Hollywood.

Personally, I kind of like that. I miss the gloss of productions like Casablanca and the golden age of Hollywood where nothing looked real but wow did it look good...

More and more DPs are just tossing a bunch of soft light on the scene, using some cool filters or Digital Intermediate work and handheld wide lenses, then cut really fast so you don't notice how sloppy the whole approach is. It looks nice, but it's kind of a cop out. We have such great special effects and sets, why don't directors and DPs have the discipline to shoot as arstistically as they used to? That said, Singer is not a favorite director of mine....
