I had this film making anywhere between 10 and 100 million dollars opening weekend. I really had no idea where it was going to end up. I guess it ended up a lot closer to the 10 million.

When I was considering seeing it, I thought to myself, "What am I going to get out of this? A relapse of my 9/11 memories? Watching a bunch of people die for no reason?" No character gets redeemed. We already know what happens (for the most part). I mean the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there was no reason to see this movie. It was just going to depress me. Looks like a lot of people felt the same way.

I know there's a thread about this movie in Film Discussion, but I thought here was more appropriate to discuss the box office.

I think it will be good. But I can't make it this weekend. Plus people need a relapse

Maybe you should go see the movie... you might have a change of mind... this is a very good film... no over powering music... no over powering acting... no super duper effects... but it grips you... just good story telling...

What do you mean these people died for no reason... who knows how many lives they saved...

My guess this thread might be closed... but some people believe that the greatest thing you can do is lay down your life for another...

i'm not going to disagree with you guys. this movie might be wonderfully *made* (and from all accounts I've heard, that appears to be the case). But it still is about a depressing subject. One that I don't think I want to revisit.

Yeah, I'm actually happy it didn't make much, I didn't support this movie from the beginning. Another hollywood movie to try and tell people what happened on a plane in the air, anyone with half a brain watching this movie would watch it as a fiction.

There are still people who want to get on planes and fly them into buildings. Yes it is a depressing subject. But it's the times we live in. It might happen again and I hope it helps people to keep on their toes and know what we are upm against. These isn't a war for oil!!

The people on flight 93 are hero's no matter if the movie make $100 or $100 million.

Did you see Micheal Moore's movie? How do you feel about a hollywood person telling a made up story about that?

Passion of the Christ missed a few points to but it was a good movie and told a pretty close story of the last few hours of Christ's life.

Pearl Harbour? Man that one was wrong too but it let us see pretty much what happen?

I think what will make some people not want to see Flight 93 is that it supports the USA and makes the terrorist look like the murdering jerks they really are.

I'm against the movie being made. I personally don't want to see it because of the depressing subject matter and how close it is to my heart. I was personally affected by the events of 9/11. That said, I wish it would have made more because 10% of the proceeds are going to the memorial fund, if it doesn't make a lot of money then the fund won't get a lot of money. I personally think that ALL the money made from this and any other 9/11 movie should be donated to the memorial funds of those events....

Just my 2 cents

agreed, i'm not agaisnt telling the story, I'm against hollywood producers profiting off of 9/11

The problem with calling the people on this plane 'heroes' is that doing so implies the people on the other 3 planes were 'cowards.'

As artists and storytellers, these are serious moral landmines. The protagonist who acts, the rewarding ending, etc.: the rules for good entertainment fail us when it comes to representing atrocity.

why would seeing the movie change my mind? I mean, again, I not saying anything about the quality or effectivness of the film, it could be SPECTACULAR! but I would still be offended that someone decided this was a good career move

i have not seen the film, but my understanding is that greengrass has avoided the trappings of mainstream entertainment clichés and devices.

do you feel this way about any tragedy? that it's off limits? because the nature of the beast we call filmmaking has as much to do with business as it does art. i wouldn't condemn a sculpture for getting paid to create a memorial, nor would i condemn the selling of tickets to patrons that want to access it.

Dude! I NEVER said that, and saying the people aboard flight 93 were heroes is not implying the others were not! The only reason the passengers knew that their plane was essentially a flying bomb is because the flight (93) was delayed and the other two planes hit the WTC before 93 was hijacked. So by the time the people were calling their loved ones, they found out from them (their relatives, etc.) that their plane was in fact going to be used on a suicide mission, that is how they were tipped off, and why they did what they did. Generally when someone hijacks a plane, they intend to land it. The people aboard the planes that hit the WTC and Pentagon would not have known that they weren't going to land and have negotiations. Hope that all makes sense.

Thing is, why are you offended? Maybe you should be offended by a lot of things then. Writers and directors ALWAYS take world events and times and write either directly about them, or close to them. Its the nature of entertainment, and media. And I for one think that they had so much respect and honor for ALL the 9/11 victims through this film. I wish it would have made 150 million dollars.

I actually liked Michael Moores movie, all he did was gather up facts and put it onto screen with evidence.

What does united 93 do? if someone from that plane survived and told the filmmaker the story, I'd understand, and Id not only pay to see the movie, I'd buy it, but the fact that NO ONE that is alive knows what happened on that plane bothers me when they make a movie trying to explain what happened on it. Sure, they made phone calls, what does that prove? that a plane was hijacked, something we all know, and thats all we know, nothing more.
