Vegas 6 doesn't support dual core 100%

EDIT: Sorry the title of this should read DOESNT support 100%!!!

I just got a new machine, its a Pentium dual core 3200 with 2 gig of ram... I do audio work mainly and run loads of VST plugins.. After speaking with the Sony people on email i was told Vegas supports dual core, but if anyone out there is wondering it doesnt support this for audio plugins!!

Im not sure what else it may or may not support dual core with on the video side but for audio im no better off than i was with my old laptop 1.8m.. Its stuttering and choking exactly the same except now i have a zippy interface along with choking audio playback.. I find it misleading when i email Sony and describe my exact situation and they tell me yes it supports dual core and suggest the upgrade would be worthwhile..

The reason i know this as fact is because i did some tests on a friends dual core machine.. He has Acid 6 also and the exact same plugin and track setup on acid works without any glitches, he gets almost double the power out of acid than vegas.. The only problem is acid is buggy as hell and crashes constantly whenever you try and perform edits while its playing back.. Whatever happened to Sonic Foundry days when each release felt like it was solid as a rock.. I hope that Vegas 7 fully supports dual core and does so without loads of bugs..

This hasn't been my experience.

My keyboard monitors CPU usage, and Vegas does indeed use both cores of my X2.

Are you doing audio or video ? Also have you tested it fully or are you just seeing some activity on both cores via a monitor and presuming its using both to 100% capacity ?

When i open task manager it shows both cores are being used but the second looks like its very minimal, probably just for screen draws etc. The actual heavy load of VST plugins doesnt seem to be spread across both like it should be..

Try running a load of audio plugins up to the point that it starts to choke and then monitor your CPUs, i bet you find one will be almost 100% and the other will be 15% or less..

EDIT: another test i found to show it doesnt use both properly is an audio render.. Load up a fairly wav file and do some cuts and fades within it etc, change it enough so that it has to do some calculations on rendering.. Then render to PCM at another bit depth and frequency different from the original, while thats happening look at your CPU monitor, if its the same as me one will be almost full and the other will be almost empty..

That looks like my monitor on low usage also, spikes like that are often windows related.. Do a large render and dont touch the mouse for a while thats a more accurate indicator..

You know, you can stop talking to me like I have no idea what I'm saying any time now.

That's the render on a three-minute timeline. I'm telling you, it uses both cores when I do it.

I don't know why it doesn't for you, but as I said, I haven't had this problem.

How i am supposed to know how skilled you are from text on a screen ? You barely wrote anything and with that picture you didnt say what was running, what am i psychic ?

Im just trying to establish whether or not you are doing everything that mimics my situation and getting this result. If i were to just reads a couple of sentances from someone else on an internet forum and takes it as gospel without probing at all id be an idiot. Thanks anyway.

I guess that's the danger of the Internet.

I posted the screen grab as an answer to your question. Maybe I should have included some words with it, but I honestly thought you'd understand it was what I was doing.

But it was the result I got. I did some further testing with audio plugins to really try to bollux it up, but I never saw a result where one core was less active than 45% or so -- and the sound never stuttered.

I haven't tested it with audio work, but I have a dual core 4400+, and with video rendering, Vegas uses both cores up to 99%....
