Which to choose...Flolight or KinoFlo???

The obvious choice is KinoFlo, I know this, but I've heard some good things about these Flolights. Just want to hear what you guys thought about this relatively inexpensive alternative to the Kino's.

I've got a Kino-Flo Diva 400 and it's a superb light. I especially love the fact, the light is dimmable--which is why I got it over the very nice Lowell Caselite 4. The Flolights look like really good values, but i think they're designed more as studio lights. Do they have carry cases? Since the small Flolight has 6 of the biax tubes, it's going to be a little on the large size to transport. It also offers a little less light control without any barn doors, although you could rig some yourself. It sure seems like a good deal since it includes the tubes--as long as the size works for you.

I agree with Barry. I also hav ethe kino-flo 400 and I have the Kino-Flo Kamio ring light and they work grate. They make good key light but they are a flat light so watch out or you shot will just looked washed out. Kino-flo's are the way to go. Flolight is a good idea but like barry said it dose seem alittle to big to be pratical

DivaLite 200s and 400s rock. I also highly reccomend getting the Lighttools fabric eggcrates made specially for Divas. The stock Kino eggcrate is worthless.

Do any of you spouting the praises of Kino's actually have experience with Flolight's in particular? I mean, I'm not trying to knock anyone's opinion, it certainly seems that everyone with Kino gear is extremely happy with it (if a bit poor after the purchase). But I'd be curious to hear what someone that actually had experience with these had to say. Anyone out there?

From the Flolight salesman:
"we don't have cases at this point for the FLolights.
Since they are built more durably than some of the
competing lights some of our customers have been
strapping them face to face for local travel. "

Awesome!

Now, when is someone going to manufacture some inexpensive HMI fixtures... something like a Joker-Bug for waaaaaay less?

I tested the 4 tube unit.
It has barn doors, and is dimable.
It's not that large, but the mounting bracket makes it heavy as it is steel instead of aluminum. Aluminum would make it much nicer, due to the weight.

The power cord is too short and not that thick of wire, maybe 18 gage, 5 feet long.

Other than that, it is a nice light.
It put out F4 over a distance of 10 feet iso 360 30/sec.

That is totally in my range, as I love to shoot on the open end, with backlight
from fresnels.

I am happy with this purchase.

Jarred, can you give me an fstop reading at 10 feet iso 360 from the smaller units?

I'm torn between the Diva Lite 400 and a Kino Flo 4bank DMX (dimmable). Mostly for one or two person interviews. Thanks for any help.

Forgive my ignorance but it appears the flolight does not come with a stand. Where is your best place to get a somewhat inexpensive stand that would work well with this light?

I got my C stands from ebay through Amvona. They were really inexpensive, I was just lowballing the bids and happened to win 2 of them. Very nice stands. One maybe had some of the chrome that was a bit thin, but for the price, I couldn't resist.

I think I paid $36, but normally they were about $100.

I purchased the flo-light 2 bank as well and love it.

Anyone know if those are custom tubes or if I can get them someplace else - I already broke freakin' 2 tubes.

the bulbs are standard bulbs that all of them use.. you can get them from BH for about 15 bucks each... just make sure they are corrected
.
