Poltergeist rearranging chairs?

I was wondering if anybody had any idea how to seamlessly change things off camera, sort of like in Poltergeist. The scene where the woman walks into the kitchen, past the chairs, then back past them and they're rearranged on the table. Did they cut ANYWHERE in the scene, and if so, where? Anybody have any good ideas regarding how to achieve this effect easily IN CAMERA? Thanks.

I believe it was a real poltergeist! The cameraman just shot the chairs as they re-arranged on their own.... ; )

The obviously cut the scene. There is a moment when chairs are not seen.

I know of the scene you reference (Jo Beth Williams is hot) but have no clue how to do that shot

I can onl think that there were production personnel off camera making ti happen:

She is off screen for plenty of time to take the chairs away or stack them accordingly. Any sound would be a breeze to remove in post of course.

Doesnt seem terribly difficult if you have enough people to make it happen.

It's possible they filmed it on a set as well especailly with the sequences of little Heather O Rourke sliding across the tile. Perhaps the chairs were lowered down quickly from on the stage ?
