Did anyone else get the brown recluse spider e-mail?

The one that's going around?

Eeeeewww.

I've known what the bites can do for some time, but it's still not pleasant to see.

ARG!
I just went and google searched for them.

That's whack. Where do these things live?

Along with cool storms... we also have Brown Recluse spiders here in the midwest USA... the next time I kill one I'll take a picture.

All you have to know is slick, not hairy, brown, not black... and the violin. After you see one good and close you can spot 'em from across the room.

Kind of sucks thinking those could be in ANY house here in the midwest doesn't it? I used to live with a girl in an old house and I probably killed a few dozen of them over the course of years.

My brother ran into some cleaning out my mom's garage. I haven't seen one in years, but I haven't lived in the Midwest since '97. I hear they get as far as the Smokies, though, in western NC.

These days the politically correct name seems to be 'Brown Recluse'. However, when I grew up they were called fiddlebacks. And, yes, they pack a mean punch. It's like they give you a small case of ebola.

I did a tv pilot in 94 about a lady who gets bitten several times and finally goes to the hospital and the doctors report it as spousel abuse because it looks like bruising then the flesh starts to rot. i play the boyfriend who gets blamed.they made us read about them nasty critters, we actually had a spider wrangler that had the spiders in a slightly frozened state and then he used the hairdryer to wake them up.(they were another kind , lookalikes)

I'm glad we don't really have venomous animals in my area. I've heard that if you hang out by the river, you might run into a rattlesnake, but I've never actually seen one.

Yeah, but you've got mountain lions or something in your area now.
Well, we have to have something to make life interesting.:) Thankfully, they don't come into town too often. My girlfriend's parents live in the middle of nowhere and they'll see them from time to time (also a few coyotes).

Yeah, my fiancee is from Iowa, near the MN border. Same thing.

I'll actually be there in a couple of weeks.

It is, indeed, a small world. You'll be about an hour away from me.

I got that brown recluse email too. Gross. But I read that they only make it a far as southern Ohio, so I should be safe in Michigan.

Those rattlesnake pics were pretty disturbing.
