You can use the DV Anamorphic Easy Setup. When exporting for the web, make sure that the size is a 16X9 Ratio, ex) 720 X 405.

Go to - File-Audio/Video settings
Under Capture presets tab click on Edit the check the box that says Anamorphic 16:9
Do the same under the sequence presets tab.
Now start a new project. Do not go back to the project you already started it will still be like you had it before. The new project should have grey bars above and below the image which you can move your windows till your image fills the screen. Then save the window set up. Recapture everything.
This should work.

okay, so i got the grey bars in FCP, but not when i exported ithe clip i'm getting a 4 X 3 ratio. i used both the regular and anamorphic setting. what am i doing wrong?

just regular QT(no compression) as if for a DVD..current settings(anamorphic).
(i can change the aspect ratio to 720 X 405 for web compression, but can only leave it at 720 X 480 for no compression-regular QT export.)

When using just the regular export, the size is 720X480 b/c that is the correct size for anamorphic footage. The best way to get widescreen stuff to dvd is through this:

Do you have "Compressor" (I assume you do). If you are exporting to DVD you used the MPEG-2 16X9 setting in Compressor.

when playing the footage once compressed as the M2v file..should it play fine in Quicktime application? my clip is glitchy. guess i'll burn it to a DVD and test it there.

16X9 Footage on DVD will have black bars on a Standard TV. That same footage on a Widescreen TV will fill it up.

The M2V File should be Widescreen without Black Bars when opened in Quicktime.

okay..it's working fine now. i did it! but i have a new question...
i don't see an option in FCP5 for 24p(advanced) anamorphic..i only have one for DV-NTSC Anamorphic. is that the one is should be using for 24p and 24pa tapes??

There is no preset. You have to go into each clip and check the box. Also in the sequence options you have to check the anamorphic box.

i'm sorry i cant find the option for each clip to check the box...can you ellaborate? thanks in advance!

In the Browser where your footage is kept lies preference reguarding each clip, ie. Duration, In, Out, etc. Scroll to the right until you find a tab that says "Anamorphic" - Clip in the space next to each clip to see a Check Mark appear. This flags the footage as anamorphic. You can rearrange the "Anamorphic" Tab so that it is closer to the left so you don't have to always scroll to the right as well.
