Hooking a CRT HDTV to DVI out? Options?

I am thinking of plunking down a few bucks for a small CRT HDTV for use to monitor HD video from the timeline in Premiere Pro, Edius or Vegas on a PC. If the TV supports 1280x720 and has DVI inputs then can I just hook it up to the second DVI output of my ATI card and set the active video window in premiere to play to that monitor? Kinda of a PC version of FCP Cinema Desktop or whatever it is called?

If this is doable can can I Put a PCI video card in an open slot and still have dual PC monitors and have the DVI feed the external CRT? I Currently have a ATI 9800Pro AGP and I have few decent PCI graphic cards that should do the trick for 2d stuff for the 2nd PC monitor.

It would really help me to do accurate color correction on an external CRT.

Thanks.

Yes, you can hook it up to your ATI out card. I have the same exact card and it works perfect.

You'll have to make sure you've downloaded all of the newest drivers for the card before you do it.

You can also accomplish the second task that you're asking about, but you need to have enough ram in your pC, and the PCI card should probably top-end to make sure that the feed from PC to CRT isn't too unersponsive.

A way to get your CRT to proper settings (I'm speaking of universal television settings) Is to use the Windows Media Center Edition color callibrator. You open the WMCE program and go to settings, and it should give you a walkthrough that'll have you change your gamma to proper settings, as well as brightness, contrast, and color.

If I'm wrong, someone correect me.

What if you don't have Windows Media Center Edition, but just good old XP professional? Where can I find a similiar tool?

Also....for basic 2d what PCI card would you think I would need? Cause as I think more about it I realized that I have a couple of AGP cards....not PCI. So I would have to buy a PCI video card.
