Fair price for used HVX200?

How much does the HVX depreciate with a little use? It was purchased to shoot a feature (40 hrs use roughly), and now will be sold. What's fair?
I appreciate the help.
ps I'm buying not selling...

Honestly, I think the HVX is still a pretty hot commodity. I mean, it IS a hot commodity. So, with few hours on the head, you are not going to get that much of a deal. However, you should be able to get a 2-400 dollars off.

I mean, if it was me, and they weren't willing to go down several hundred dollars, I would just splurge for a brand spanking, shiny, new one. But thats just me.

lol@ 2-400 dollars off.

Uhm, I think around 5200-5500 hundred is a great package, well, it depends on what it came with, seeing how Ebay has it for 5200 on a buy it now price, brand new without American Warranty, so I wouldn't know what the guy is offering you with the camera.

It always makes me laugh til I fall over that people still deem Ebay as the "de Facto of average selling prices." Sorry but I disagree. I think the whole Ebay thing is a really a scam anyway. Most of the bidders on electronics are there to play and not to be serious.

But what really makes me laugh is how much intellect is available to people who would even think of paying $5000 for an HVX-200 without a USA warranty. If I could afford to spend $5000, I would pay an addition $1000 just for the peace of mind that it came from an American retailer with a USA warranty.

Yeah, so would I.

But he never mentioned what the seller was offering with the DVX, what if the seller was offering the same HVX thats on Ebay, with the same deal, no US warranty of any of that for 5600? why buy that when you can get it new without the goodies on ebay for 5200, get my point?

Of course, if he offers US warranty, and it came from an American store, I'd pay more to get it, but if it isn't, theres no difference.

No such thing as a "fair" price. From economics class, an item's value is the maximum price that you can get someone to pay for it. Ebay's a good starting point. I was pretty surprised over what someone paid for my used DVX.

By the way, this thread should probably be moved to HVX News.

New! New! New! I'm currently building a new business and I battled with cutting costs so many times. When it comes to your cornerstones like the cam. Happily spend the money for the best you can get. I wouldn't think of buying a used HVX this early in the game.

Who did you say the seller was? Ha...

I think now would be a bad time to buy an HVX economics-wise... or any HD cam for that matter. If you gotta' get it then you gotta' get it... but I'll bet within 6 months we'll see a significant drop in price.

I dont get it....I typed a response to Filmmakerr and now its gone. Where did it go? Was it deleted? Did I type something inappropriate?

Anyway, in a nutshell, what MattinSTL said...

rlm7189--There aren't any deleted threads in the database, so it must have disappeared into the ether.

HD cameras a red hot these days, so the only thing that's going to drive prices down is saturating the market (ha!) or the introduction of better cheaper cameras. I guess if Red is going to come in at 10K and be released in the fall, it would depress HVX prices, but otherwise, I see HVX prices dropping very slowly over the next 12 months. Whatever get's introduced at NAB will set the market on it's course, but I haven't heard about any competing $5000 HD cameras.

If an HVX has only been used for P2 recording and not onto tape does it mean that no hours are on the heads. And if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one around to hear it does it make a noise.

I'm betting around Christmastime you'll see some good deals. Maybe even as low as $5,200 in some places.

I know the answer to the tree question.

The answer is no. Why? It can be perceived that "noise" indicates audibility. Therefore, ergo, if noone is there to "hear" the "noise", then it does not make a sound, vis a vie and so on and so forth.

I disappeared for a while...
Okay. So, the camera would not have much use on it - but it is used! I believe they have the legit american version with warranty. Does anyone know how the warranty works? Is it transferrable?
I can get a new US version for 5300, so why would I pay that for a used one?
You're right, it would be much cheaper to wait. However, I make my living shooting and a lot of people want this camera. I think it would be a wise move for me (economically) to dish out the extra money to get it now.
I guess I'll just have to sit down with the producer and work out what we think is fair. It'll be difficult to find 'comps'.
Jim
ps don't forget about my warranty question. :)

Well, thanks for checking. I'll bet I had a response in my head but got distracted and thought I typed something when I didn't. Hey, I have A.D.D. Sometimes, I'm like a cracked-out ferret.

As for the lol@2-400 off, filmMakerr, I think the point you were trying to make is that the HVX price is not going to budge anytime soon. But, in my opinion, anyone who would buy ANY used piece of electrical gear, no matter how hot it is, for the same price as retail is just making a foolish mistake. Why would you do that? If you aren't going to save anything, why not just buy it brand spanking new with some recourse? I mean, you'll at least know its history.

If someone offered to sell me their used HVX, I would definitely chip a few hundred dollars off. Otherwise, I'd just buy new.
