Did you guys see some of my teaser thread responses?

Well, in a way I can see his POV. But more in reference to Hollywood. Like remember when Pricilla came out ( a great movie ), and then Hollywood said: "Hey, gay drag queens are cool! Let's call Patrick Swayze and put him in a dress!" I mean Hollywood is gulty of jumping on the bandwagon (whichever one is passing) constantly.

But in general, even if you did make it about lesbians to get attention, if it's good, it's good. And that's the bottom line.

But stay away from the butt-sex comedies man. That's MY territory!!!! :)

lol, thanks for sharing you opinion with me and trust me, I'm not interested in making butt-sex comedies at all. lol

Oh wait a minute. I was responding to only one comment he made. I just went back and read the thread from the beginning, and I saw this comment from him:

Sorry, gross. I'm sick of these immoral fads

Yeah, that's retarded. Without immoral fads, there would never even have BEEN a movie business. Besides which, I hardly see how a love story about women is immoral. I mean, wait till he sees me with the blow-up doll in MH II...poor guy will probably have a heart attack.

one can see that the thrust of this bigot's argumant, what he's really railing against, is that homosexuality is wrong and immoral. and any filmmaker that explores it, becomes an advocate for the lifestyle by both exploiting and contributing to its "trendiness".

his assertion that a good film is only the product of good camera techinique, cinematography, etc is just about the most ignorant thing i've read in a long time. it's like saying what makes a great meal is the food's arrangement on your plate.

That is not cool... that guy should keep his preferences and convictions out of judging your work. Sometimes its best to stay silent... or judge it objectively on its artistic value, and story alone, not on it's "morals" I just don't get it.

Ok, so I'm not insane. At first I was like "whoa! what the hell is wrong with this guy" but then I tried to take a step back and read things again just to see if I was off or something but I still feel like he was extreme.

I love hearing all views so don't think I'm complaining or anything. I put it out there to be torn in to so even the extreme views are welcomed to grab the mic and express their views right?

you are prob going to get more feedback like that once you get the film out there. don't let it get to you.. it has nothing to do with filmmaking. homosexuality is not a trend, fad or gimmick. his response was so sterotypically lame... sad really.

I don't think that's true. I mean I don't agree with him but it is his opinion and he can base his opinion on whatever he wants. We must remember that the key to opinions is that they don't have to be substantiated by fact. So he, I , you , and us can think whatever we want and don't have to have any reason for it. It's really up to Jay to decide if he agrees or disagree with his opinion.

I suppose you're right... but when watching something, you have to judge it's artistic and storytelling merit, before the moral aspect... obviously there's a line there... some things are just too blatant, and you can choose NOT to watch or judge those things if you don't want to.

I just try to judge it on what they want me to judge it on. Someone might ask what do you think about this morally and that's what they want you to critique on and some people might want you to look at lighting. It's all about what the requester wants from you.

I don't really agree with that. There are lots of movies that I won't watch based on content that may be "technically and artistically genius" and I will judge that as such. I personally liked coffee's stuff but then again I have a little bit of perversion in me :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG). Coffee didn't specify what he was looking for so it was basically open season. Now lets say someone put together and educational video on Nasa and the space program, great video, audio, story, special effects but decided to toss in some curse words because hey, we all curse a bit in real life well... There are people that would judge that video on the content right off the bat because the curse words offend them and if this was aimed at the childrens market it would be absolutely proper to judge it on the content before the technical and artistic right?

oh... I see your point... and agree... I won't watch some things based on content... absolutely... but at the same time, some content doesn't make me not watch a film, even if I don't agree with it, and would never put it in something I do... I don't know if that makes sense.

silver, thats all very true. and i'm not countering you here. just expanding on a thought...

i agree we should expect everyone to have a unique perspective. but, we're talking about a guy who said, "sorry, gross" to a film about a lesbian relationship in crisis. we, as a community of filmmakers, have a responsibility to each other and ourselves to look beyond superficial layers. if this guy can't get past himself long enough to consider and critique 'Torn' based on the themes, characters, etc that inhabit it, i don't see why he should get to hide behind his "right to an opinion" when his motivation is so transparently... acrimonious.

True. Maybe the subject matter hit close to home for him because he actually has two mommies. I don't know the reasons for him not liking the movie but his layers might not be superficial. From what I can tell he never said why he didn't like the subject aside from it being immoral. What he did do is accuse Coffee of following fads and not being a true filmmaker

Very well put. That's the part that I can't understand. I mean, I thought he was a filmmaker.

Oh well, it's all good. It didn't stop me from sending my DVD out to a fellow member to get replicated, duplicated (whatever the proper term is) so that I can hand the film out to folks at Tribeca next week.

I was thinking of selling the DVD online and here (if I had the support) to make some of the $$ back. What do you guys think? LOL, I hear a huge roar of "NO's".....

You're totally right about that.. that's really why I did the little teaser anyway, just to see what kind of "rips" it would bring in. I knew at least one person here would take that title but I honestly though a few more would join in. Maybe those folks decided not to post anything at all.

ha, ha! maybe. i would not be surprised that he is morally opposed to homosexuality, considers it a plague on society and that anyone making a film about it is contributing to the "problem". i'm sure his statement on "exploiting a fad" is a veiled way of saying "the fags are taking over Hollywood".
