I need a quick suggestion on exporting for DVD

cygnet74 posted a great link. Follow that and you should have no problem. For a short, it shouldn't matter much whether you use aiff or ac3. If you're doing a feature, though, you'll definitely want to go with ac3 to conserve room on the disk for your picture.

Just to go along with the link above, you may want to bookmark this one:

Ken Stone is a great resource.

Just completed the process but I'm not sure of what I have on my hands here. The file extention is a .m2v file.

what do I do with that? That's not an mpeg2 file is it?

it is an mpeg 2 formatted file.

That's your asset along with the audio file generated... IF YOU CHOSE BOTH!!

Import them into DVDSP as assets and build your track.

Good luck,

Hope you're using DVDSP... iDVD is a bit tougher if you're in a widescreen format.

Thanks my friend. I'm going to try my hand at it in a few minutes from now.

Hey I FINALLY checked out that process that you sent me. Very cool stuff, I've been itching to get on and put a couple of hrs into it to try it out.

What preset did you select? I usually go with the MPEG 2 60 min High Quality encode for shorter stuff.

I can't remember the extension for the file I generated, but all you have to do is to import that file into DVD Studio Pro and build your DVD and burn.

LOL -- no problem.

I actually prefer the 90 minute HQ encode out of compressor. For me, the 60 minute is TOO bitrate intensive and often looks sharp-edged and harsh. The 90 gives me a softer look. Don't know how true that is, but it's what I generally go with. Stay away from 120 unless you have to use it... and if you do... find a dual layer burner and some discs and use the 90 minute twice.

Good luck,

thanks guys, it worked out really well.

Did a TON of trial and errors today and finally found what I think works for me. Capt, I did the 90 minute HQ and it looks great!

thanks again everyone!
