Ikan V7000 7inch Wide Screen LCD monitor

http://www.videoguys.com.au/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1958

anyone here used one of these monitors before? how clear was it for focusing images in/out door, or need to spend more $$ for that top accuarcy? Looking for a monitor with the horiz/vert flip but most importantly sharp focusing. Its so easy to want more than the budget can afford :D

I have no experience with monitors at all, but am tossing up between this and purchasing dv rack software/laptop. From using hte trial of dv rack though the field monitor seemed to lag behind when panning the camera, is this normal?

Thanks

If you're looking primarily focus then you can already see that < 300 lines isn't really going to do the trick, especially at HD.

I think most people on here who use this monitor use it for flipping the image of their 35mm adapters and composition. As dougspice said, not hi-res enough for critical focus even at SD, let alone HD.

Well, at that price range, you're going to have a hard time finding a decent focusing monitor.

For the money, I'd go varizoom.

Yeah, I've heard good things about the VZ, as well. Not for focusing, of course, but a good screen for a monitor. I would've gotten one, but I got a very cheap one off of eBay that really kinda sucks, but does what I need.

I've had this same question in recent days and decided to make the comparison.
According to the specifications on the Vari and Ikan websites...

Ikan res. is 1440 X 234
Vari rest is 1440 X 234

Ikan power consumption is <8w
Vari power consumption is 10w

Ikan weight is 1.05 lb
Vari weight is 0.84 lb

Ikan is $349
Vari is $529

Guess it depends on what's you deem important to your shooting style and setup.

enjoy.

how many lines resolution would be necessary to get a good focus? does anyone have any recommendations? I'm prepared to wait longer and save more cash, rather have a quality piece of equipment that does the job required than a cheaper substitute. What monitors would you guys recommend to achieve a critical focus and have flipping capabilities?

is something like this JVC monitor ok? or would more lines of resolution still be necessary?
