"Great" Movies that Suck

Is everybody happy? I know I am...

Not trying to bust your chops, cygnet74, I just needed to see where you were coming from and while it took a while to figure out, I can respect your feelings about the films you like even if they wouldn't necessarily be my first choice.

Hostel IS a masterpiece. Just picked it up myself. Won't be disappointed, John. Also listen to the Tarantino commentary. It's great.

Tobe Hooper? What happened to him?

Masterpiece ? WTF ? Really ?

-

Tarantino is so fun to listen to; so passionate about film

-

Hooper ? He did TEXAS CHAINSAW andF POLTERGIEST and SALEMS LOT and then fell apart I guess.

How much do we really believe he had to do with the ACTUAL directing of this movie. Spielberg's fingerprints were all over it.

And I'm expecting an in depth critique on HOSTEL before deciding whether or not to watch it...

That old rumor. Didn't Hooper walk off the set or something.

Tobe Hooper was put into an unfortunate position. His first film is this iconic masterpiece and ever other film he made after that had to live up to it and just couldn't. It's really not fair.

John, you can see my love for hostel in this thread. I'm looking forward to your review.

a great thing about living in LA are the little stories you hear about people; people like tobe hooper. i was dating a girl that worked for NRG. they do all the preview test screenings and get people to rate tv spots and trailers, stuff like that. anyway this woman comes in for an interview. when asked why she is looking for work (it seemed a step down for her) she said her ex-husband, tobe hooper, had borrowed tens of thousands of dollars from her. he never paid her back and she needed money.

so what did i learn that day? tobe hooper is a deadbeat.

Stas, I think you misread the title of the thread.:)

Unless, all those suck for you. In that case... wow.

I haven't seen Rushmore so I can't comment on that but I can agree with Magnolia and American Beauty. Boogie Nights and Crash were okay but I liked Road to Perdition. Hmmmm.
