Wes Anderson films

So what do you guys think of Wes Anderson's films? I have watched all of his movies with commentary and the amount of detail that goes into everything... the character development, the subtle humor, it is amazing. I really like his stories because they dont really deal with an antagonist/protagonist plot line like most movies do, but deals with all of the characters faults and how they overcome/deal with them. It also seems that a lot of people dislike his movies for some reason. I guess he is one of those filmmakers you either have to hate or love.

He says in one of the commentary tracks that some crtitics say he over-stylizes his films and have distracting plot lines. I really dont see how someone could percieve this but I guess some do.

Sure, I see how you couldn't like them. But I haven't personally met many people who don't. What I DO dislike is obvious knock-offs like Napoleon Dynamite that steal the style but lose everything else.

I need to see The Life Aquatic again. I only saw it once and couldn't decide what I thought of it.

he does have a very controlled frame. which lends a certain artificiality to his films.

"Bottle Rocket" is good in that "first movie" kind of way. "Rushmore" is brilliant. As close to a perfect film as I've seen.

The other two, not so much.

I used to think that. My initial reaction to The Royal Tenenbaums was sort of lukewarm. But each time I've watched it, I've liked it more and more. I'm now pretty sure it's brilliant.

I really enjoy his work.. Have not been dispointed yet.

I give a ton of props to the Wilson Brother's for Bottle Rocket however. Life Aquatic was great.

The Life Aquatic is absolutely brilliant. As close to a perfect performance by Bill Murray as I have ever seen. Anderson seems to have a great relationship with him, and it definitely translates to the screen.

I agree with all of you, I think that The Royal Tenenbaums and the Life Aquatic are brilliant films. The Life Aquatic could never have been done with any other actor than Bill Murray. period.

ya, Life Aquatic was great. I agree with all of you. I liked Royal Tenenbaum's as well, and Bottle Rocket was great "in a first movie kinda way".

I love his style. Everything is SO stylized, all the character details are such that his films can be watched over and over again and still intrigue

That is 100% my beef with Napolean Dynamite.

And I agree with DJ, Rushmore is his best film so far.

One of my favorite lines from an Anderson movie was in Life Aquatic:

You never say, 'I'm gonna fight you, Steve.' You just smile and act natural, and then you sucker-punch him.

Hilarious! I like all his films, and the humor in them is a welcome breath of fresh air.

Rushmore is still my favorite, but I like all of Anderson's films. I even liked his American Express commercial. He was definitely lucky to have Luke and Owen for Bottle Rocket.

Wes is great. He walks up there with Gilliam.
I never tire of new ideas and beauty...and acting...oh, and story lines...um passion for the characters...colors...shots... Different and better than most of the other "ISH".

Now, don't go talking any smack on Bill Murray. He's got a good streak going. I know he is always Bill, but he cleans up by being Bill.

Rushmore is a classic. Brilliant film. Great story, great dialogue. "I miss Rushmore. I miss the seasons." Brilliant.

I love all of his movies. I think the reason the the Life Aquatic was frowned on was because it was very different from all his other movies, especially if you've seen and studied each one about 20 times.

Tenenbaums is probably, to me, his best movie. The music chosen, and just the brilliance of it. Margot getting off the bus to These Days by Nico. Wigwam by Bob Dylan playing when Henry and Etheline first kiss. Every line is perfect, ever part perfectly played.

I'm a rushmore and bottle rocket fan I think thats where I strated watching his movies.

And to give my favorite quote:

I dont have one. I have so many. I could be here all day typing them up. But heres a few:

He has the cancer- Pagoda
... I havent slept with a man in 18 years- Etheline
How much are you worth... were gonna need all of it- Max Fischer
Rightly so- Eli Cash
Those f****** amateurs, you left your dog, you idiots.- Steve Zissou
It is beautiful, Steve -Eleanor

And, of course, the one from my Sig.
