So where does one go to hire a screenwriter?

If I had an idea for a film (finished treatment) but I wanted to hire an accomplished (not famous, but someone who's written a screenplay before in a similar genre) screenwriter to write the screenplay, where would I go?

Thanks.

My instinct says to find a writer who has written something in the genre that you like, and then find their agent. If not that, I bet you could find a couple through some of the online screenwriting courses or even just contacting a professor about promising students.

MattC --

You can always put out adverts at various online websites detailing your requests. I'd think it would help posting just how much you are willing to pay.

Remember, you get what you pay for in life. And writers and their quality of work are no different.

Matt-

Try your Island's WGA or ask someone the next time you are on set. Or take some screenwriting classes. Or even join a screenwriting group...there are ads for them on craigslist (at least here in LA). I'd also look into Mandy.com or placing an ad in variety. Don't know how much that is, but you'd get responses. Mandy is free though...I think (and entertainmentcareers.net). But, why not write that puppy yourself? Good luck!
