the dr group, now in culver city, charges $200/hr or $2000/day for HD projects on a comparable set-up and $100/hour or $1000/day for an SD project on athe same bay. this does not include an editor in either scenario.

I have a similar bay to yours but bill my clients $2000/week for HD bay rental and $1200/week for SD bay rental. and to hire me as an editor it's minimum $575/day for DVD and EPK, and a minimum (depends on client) $750/day for trailers and tv spots.

these are general numbers though. there are always negotiations on the budget prior to starting a project.

Is this an online/offline suite? What sort of clients are you serving? (Commercials - national, regional, local; Films - studio, independent, no budget; industrials, etc) Depending on who your client is and what services you will be providing, your rate can vary a lot. Even then, your bids will often change to suit your clients' needs - such as adding the HD deck rental into it. Another part would be how nice your facility is - i.e. someone's garage versus an office that you would see in Architectural Digest.

For example, an offline facility working for a commercial client may get $2500/day with editor included, and an online facility working on the same commercial may get $1000/hr and that may or may not include the online editor - and then there's the sound mix too which I won't even get into. (and those rates could be WAY too much for some clients and considered a bargain by others)

Thank you all for the thoughtful feedback. Its true there is a very wide spectrum in post production with opportunities for all.

We are now copmpiling rates from companies accross the country for HD camera and deck rental and HD post. We'll post the summary results including average, high and low by region.

Garrett: You are so right about atmosphere.

cygnet74, you have given the best response to a "how much" question I have seen yet. Hopefully someday I can afford to have you work your magic on one of my projects.
