Torture In Film

I'm shooting a project in two weeks and it has an extensive torture scene. I've gone through and shot listed and storyboarded the heck out of this scene, but wanted to go rent some films and see what other people have done with similar scenes. What's the problem then?

I am drawing an almost complete blank with films that have any torture in them. Obviously there is the Resevoir Dogs scene, Devil's Rejects is more psychological, House of 1000 Corpses didn't have much. I'm just looking for something that is, well, torture.

Any suggestions?

Not sure if they made a movie of it, but there is the book The Devils of Loudon that might be of interest. How about Marathon Man?

Check out David O'Russells Three Kings. A short, but good torture scene in there. The electrocution part was actually live electricity going through Mark Wahlberg.

To add to that, Sryianna has some good scenes as well.

It seems there was a torture scene in Malevolence but it's been a long time since I've seen it.

And since I'm not sure what you're looking for, there's always Rambo II

Nice Luis

How about:

Conspiracy Theory (Perhaps not torture you are looking for; but the atmosphere created in these scenes is terryfying)

Also check The Constant Gardner. Oh no, wait. That was torture too watch.

Are you going for realism or exploitation? If you're talking Abu Garib, BATTLE IN ALGIERS is the cinematic final word on the use (and uselessness) of torture during wartime. The torture itself isn't really shown, however.

If you want the actual gore, at the other end of the spectrum is GUINEA PIG and GUINEA PIG 2, which consist of nothing but a person being tortured and dismembered for the duration of the movies.

Other suggestions: DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, FUNNY GAMES, the Italian Cannibal films, FEROX, HOLOCAUST, etc. Also, all those rape-revenge movies create the atmosphere of torture pretty well, I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, HOUSE AT THE EDGE OF THE PARK, THRILLER, etc.

Hostel is a must see. Wolf Creek is a must see.

Blaine, you've seen Malevolence? I though I was the only one on the planet that's seen that. Great little horror flick.

Last House is a great example. Straw Dogs.

Thriller??? You sick ****.

In that rather motley list of films, how is it that one that gets me called sick? I'm not sure if you're kidding, or if we're talking about the same thing:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072285/

Yes, I was kidding. And yes, we're talking about the same film. It's basically a porno with some gratutious violence thrown in.

One thing about being a member of this fine community is you gotta have a sense of humor and not takes things so personally because there's a lot of wiseguys around here.

Well, if I lacked a sense of humor to begin with I'm not sure how I could acquire one at your suggestion, but to put you at ease, I took nothing personally. I just wondered if you were making some odd Michael Jackson reference, or something.

I mean, "basically a porno with some gratutious violence thrown in," is sorta par for this kind of cinema, isn't it?

I thank everyone for their suggestions. I did a temp. upgrade on my Net Flix account so I can get a lot of research done. This is going to be intense.
