Overlooked significance, and realization about DVXuser and Internet in general .

While just responding to a post, and uploading a certain mp3 for someone here, I sat for a minute or two actually thinking about what I was doing. Not the obvious stuff, but the sheer potential.

This is truly an incredible time we live where people from all over can come, share, chat, joke, work together, LEARN, and expand their knowledge.

I have a friend who plays in an Internet band. He plays guitar, and hooks up with people all over the globe for real time music making. Imagine playing bass with a drummer in Ireland, a keyboarder in Japan, and a six stringer in Nashville.

If you stop and think about what this place really is, and then stop and consider the POSSIBILITES of what we do and can do, it is almost overwhelming.

I have taught people some Photoshop skills, learned a ton about filming, learned stuff from kai about After Effects, MattC has chimed in helped me with photography, video and sound skills, NBCshooter has helped with both photography posts and donated pictures for the PS forum, and the stuff I learn from MattSTL, Yankee and Dave Fisk about the production side of audio has been great. Those are certainly not the only folks, just the ones that popped in my head.

Heck, there are even joint projects happening in the Herofest forum. People working together thousands of miles apart for the sheer fun of creating. And it all works well.

In fact, it works so well, most of us don't notice.

So, if you can, take the time to look at this board, and others like it, and the internet itself for the sheer creative and learning potential there is. It's power beyond words.

Great board, great time to be around.

Cheers to my many talented internet peeps, and to the folks behind the scenes that make it all possible!!

It's just a fad.

:)

Right on, Mr. Isara.com. :)

I concur, Rapier and, as such, I have three websites that are enjoying modest levels of success and there is definitely potential for sharing ideas and uplifting people.

That is one of the coolest things I've heard about, ever.

Exactly.

But I think Rapier's saying we shouldn't just be browsers ...

Hey ... if some ladies play music together over the internet ...
does that make them a broad-band ?

That joke proves to me that there is a Satan. And he hates comedy.

But in general, I agree with the original post. The internet really has drastically changed my life. I make my living over the internet now, I distribute my movies, I make my phone-calls over VOIP, I am involved with several message boards where I discuss things with people all over the world, my friends all over the coutry keep track of my goings-on through my website and blog, I keep track of NASA missions with an ease I never would have imagined when I was a kid. It's great.

Welcome to the future, dear boy.

It really is baffling when you pause to consider it.

hahaha that's great

I'll agree about DVXuser.com Overall, I think the internet is a wonderful resource. In general it does have a lot of bad qualities as well. It's sort of like Jurassic Park. "You stood on the shoulders of geniuses, and you went to the next level without thinking if you should. All you were thinking about is if you could". The internet has made available an undisciplined way of learning. It becomes more about skimming instead of scanning and absorbing in some cases.

I'll get asked a question through email. Once I send them in right direction they're all of the sudden experts without even trying the methods out. Just because you have a page bookmarked, or skimmed upon principles doesn't mean you've learned anything.

Has anyone ever seen that skit on SNL about Stan Hooper? It's played by Norm MacDonald. He's this guy who goes to this church trivia game. You win money there, and he's scamming them. The skit starts out by having the host say "Welcome back to Bible Trivia. Today we have our returning champion, Stan Hooper" There were two other contestants. One was another SNL cast member, and the other was Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino was playing a southern preacher. Ok, so the game plays out like this; the host asks you the question AND gives you the answer. All you have to do is be honest and say if you knew the answer or not. Well Stan ALWAYS knows the answer no matter what. They'll ask a super hard question, answer it, and Stan will say "Yeah I knew that". Tarantino finally suspects that Stan is lying and accuses him of it. Then Stan says "No, I knew that". Man I want to see this skit again, it's hilarious.

If anyone wants to read the transcript, it can be found here (Tarantino is Dr. Gene Spaulding):

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/95/95ebible.phtml

The moral of the story; he never knows the answer, it's just given to him. Even with the answers given to him he won't remember anything once he leaves Bible Trivia. That's kind of like Google and most people. What's the fletcher-munson curve? doop dooply doop in google...ahh I see, "Yeah I knew that"... Ok Stan

DVXuser.com is awesome, though. I've never seen a community so disciplined and intelligent. It makes me feel much better about the internet in general.

what three? i wanna see.

In all honesty, I've made some good friends through this site. Hell, I've made some friends that I haven't met, but yet we send each other gear to try out and see if it works for us. I think that's what's great about DVXUser... It is a community.
