how come every single time i upload my new footage from my dvx via firewire in my comp, the footage always is like 4 shades darker......i almost never know if i will get the same exact footage in my comp that i see in my dvx....why is this?...does it matter what firewire cable i use?...do i have to ajust the capture settings??.. what is it?

yea it is.....dont think the monitor is an issue because i burn it to dvd and there is still that dark shadish tint to all the footage, i wonder what it could be.....

There must be a setting in the camera that needs to be changed. I had this same kind of problem once and I had to channge the shutter speed. It helped.

Hope this helps

Your monitor may be properly calibrated but the LCD display (if that's what you're using) on your DVX is not. It can't be really. Try connecting your DVX to your monitor and comparing. I've run into the same problems and now I understand why reference monitors are still used in production. I use DVrack whenever I can and get consistently better results.

You can adjust the DVX LCD brightness to more closely match the recorded video but I've found that it depends on the general light level that your shooting in. If you are depending on auto exposure, you can adjust your scene file setting to compensate.

Do a test.

Shoot a test chart with both black and white Bars on it. (Grey scale if you have one will also be helpful)

Ensure the camera Zebras are set to 100% and expose the card with the 100% zebras displaying on the white bar.

Take the footage into Premiere and turn on the scopes. The waveform should have the white bar at 1.0 (1mv) and the black bar at 0.3. The grey scales will step in the middle and the 18% grey bar should read at 80% on the scope.

If this isnt happening do a Reset on the Scene File settings and try again.

I also suspect you are exposing (badly) from your camera LCD and maybe a scene setting is set up wrong.

While in PPro - put a Color Bar up on the scope. It has black and white levels that you can read and reference to your own bars.
