Design a Matte Box for HVX200

I have been making Matte Boxes mostly for film motion picture cameras and I am interested to learn about their adaptability and utility for the HVX200. I am also considering if a new model tailored to the HVX200 is in order. My current models are clamped to lens fronts by hand tightening and do not require rod support though it is an option. They hold 2 - 4"X5.65" glass filters in my machined aluminum (spring retaining) trays. Also a single 4.5" filter is easily inserted and then rotated such as would be done with a polarizer. Are these filter sizes appropriate for this camera and lens giving ample field of view coverage without being overkill? How desirable is rod support? Would going trayless be desireable for the sake of saving dimension, weight and money if adequate in and out access was provided for direct handling of the filters. Are plastic filters popular among HVX200 users? What is the best struck relationship between features, simplicity of use, durability and cost?
I need some specific information as well. Can anyone tell me the exact outside diameter of the HVX200's lens and the depth of that diameter? Are there any mechanical abnormalities in this area to be considered. If there are any HVX200's in the San Francisco area that I could be allowed to take measurements from and perhaps evaluate coverage it would be greatly appreciated.
Direct contact and discussion on this forum are welcome and appreciated.

Box has to be mounted to a bayonet ring and cannot attach anywhere else and it must precisely clear the focus ring which is immediately adjacent. Otherwise, it may impair focusing. Since filter rings are one of the primary reasons for having a matte box (otherwise flags would do) the rails are highly recommended and the only way to really attach follow focus equipment.

I'd be willing to possibly help in exchange for a free unit. And yes I have an engineering degree and 12 years experience in quality control of manufacturing electronic hardware.

Sounds like something good here Greg. I'm interested in a Matt box. The 4 x 5.65 is actually a desired size and I don't think it's overkill. I've seen both this size and 4x4 for the HVX. You might want to check out the Cavison options as they are now shipping one for the HVX as well.

Let us know and what kind of prices are you thinking? There are plenty of options above a grand-2000, but not much for the 300-800 range. I think if you can keep it in that range you'd be really styling.

I'd also like to have rod supports more than anything. This camera is already heavy so why not get something more stable and easier on the lens. I also think that an optional shoulder brace that comes off the rods is very much desired... Maybe pistol grips as well.

Thanks

Thanks SoundMaster and Justyn for responses and info. The base price of my current is $1070 with 2 4x5.65 trays and 3rd 4.5 round stage without rod support. I am going to have to look further into the attachment / support issue. Thanks again for your input. Sorry for my delay in responding I did not have email notification set-up properly, hopefully I do now.
