Vegas only rendering at 50% when rendering with Hyperthreading

Has anyone else ran into this problem? I'm running XP home, and some apps, like Vegas and AE never use the full CPU. Right now I am renering a .png sequence, and eh CPU useage in the Task Manager has held at 50%.

Is there a way I can set this up correctly?

mine does that too, but it uses the full allocation of RAM. 1 gig.

but DVD architect runs at 95-100 %CPU and like 250 MB RAM.

i wonder.

I would think that's awesome that it's only at 50% ... unless you're meaning that you want to see it at 100%, like it's maxing that CPU out to render it even more quickly. I wouldn't think that the % of CPU used would really have that much to do with how quickly something renders, unless it's just peg'd at 100%, then I'd think it could be slowing down & choking through it.

I'm running Vegas with an Athlon X2 and noticed that some of my renders max out at 50%, while others max out at 100%. In my case the problem wound up being video filters - if you use a filter which is not optimized for Multiple CPUs, then your entire render will effectively only use 1 CPU.

In the "Plug-In Chooser" window, effects with green icons are optimized for Multiple CPUS. Effects with yellow icons are not (such as Sony Film Effects and all of my Third-Party filters).

As usual, the answers are quick, poinient, and helpful.

THanks all.

And yeah, just rendering a .png is not probably a plugin that would use multiple CPUs.

Edit: Oh, and it's spelled poignant. Dumb me.

CTRL-ALT-DEL, go to "Process". Right click on "vegas60.exe", and make sure "Set Affinity" is using both processors.
