Perfect MiniDV Camera to Use as VTR

I just got the Samsung SC-D365, $350 at Best Buy.

It's got S-Video output. Also S-Video/Analog input. 16:9 widescreen LCD (might come in handy when shooting the DVX in 16:9). And it shuttles the tape very nicely.

Just thought I'd let y'all know.

I assume it has firewire? And does the DVX timecode (especially free run) make it through the Samsung camera into your NLE?

Thanks for the tip. I bought a GS250 last year and was planning on using that as my VTR. Do you think I should sell it and buy a cheaper camera? Does it matter which camera you use to capture video shot on a DVX to your pc? Does anything ever get "lost" depending on the camera you use as a VTR?

I'm using a panny ps12 i got off ebay for $200 about a year ago. Works great plus i take it to the field now and then and use it as a camera for "risk shots" where if it falls off the roof of a moving car i won't mind so much and as a bonus it uses the same batt as my dvx so no messing around w those and how i have an extra batt and charger for my dvx... well worth it imho.

how can you use another camera with the dvx, only it shoots 24p?

actually now that ive had my first head writer scare, im thinking i should use my sony DCR H65 to do playback and capturing. good idea? less wear and tear on my dvx heads?

the camera captures images at 24p but still records to tape at 60fps--i'm still unclear exactly how this works---so yes you can use virtually any camera as your deck. i use my sony dcr pc9 with no probs. and according to barry green's book just use a 60i timeline if you shoot 24p, and a 24p timeline if you shoot 24pa, although you can supposedly do the reverse as well, just this is the optimal way to go.

oh and i'm using sony tapes so i guess using a sony as a vtr is cool, but i wonder, if you use shoot on panny tapes, use the sony to import some footage, then use the same tape in the dvx for further shooting, whether it would gum up the heads in the dvx because of the lubricated/non lubed issue. wouldn't using the tapes in the sony do that? and contaminate the dvx? my dvx was previously used by a guy who used only sony tapes, and as a result doesnt work with panasonic tapes. seems a bit extreme that the camera can get so "used" to the different tapes, so wanted to let you know.
