I searched back 365 days on this and nothing came up, so here goes. Have any of you used or had experience with the Glidecam CAMCRANE 200?

If so, what are your thoughts?

Re: Glidecam CAMCRANE 200

Quite a bit of experience with the 100, and as near as I can tell there's not much difference between it and the 200 except the 200 uses round tubes instead of square ones.

Basic summary: it works well for what it does, and the company's customer support is superb. Totally first-class customer support.

However, it's limited in two main ways: it doesn't offer any provision for tilting or panning the camera, and it takes a while to build it on location. I got some great shots out of mine, but eventually I sold it to migrate over to the EZ/FX. The EZ/FX is a lot more expensive though.

Re: Glidecam CAMCRANE 200

i looked at the glidecam crane and pretty much all of the ones i could find and i picked the skycrane jr.

it is in two pieces, it is easy to setup, seems to be constructed with a lot of thought and quality steel stock and most importantly for me it has a really nice system for controling the angle of the camera via a simple wheel.

you can also put a weight on the wheel's handle to keep the camera at a consistent angle as you bring the crane up and down.

their support is phenomenal too.

Has an LCD monitor mount for $44.95, but doesn't come with a monitor.

Anyone have experience with the jimmy jib?

Re: Glidecam CAMCRANE 200

check out this crane --

dvmoves.com

i looked everywhere, and though the skycrane was pretty good, it came in second to the dvmoves crane IMO... check out the demo video as well...

it's co-designed by ron dexter... rondexter.com :)

I've lost the bolt that connects the head to the plate. Can anyone give me the specifications of that bolt (width, height, threading, etc.) so that I can replace it? I can call Glidecam tomorrow (normal business day) but it would be nice to purchase it today if I can.

Thank you,

Andy

Kessler Crane!!! I have the 8' with the 3' ext. to make a 5.5' well built easy to assemble on site and has tilt. They also have a 12' version or an ext. to make a 12' if you buy the shorter crane first. Withe the tripod head at about 4-4.5 feet you can get 9' at the camera. I use this a lot in home interiors and small rooms and resturants so for now the 5.5' - 8' versions work very well. But that 12' is there if you need it.

I have mine mounted on a dedicated tripod with a Bogan 503 head. They have a bunch of accessories from monitor holders to motorized pan-tilt head if you need it. http://www.kesslercrane.com

I paid 399.95 for the basic 8' then added some accessories. This is the crane in the 5.5' config

The crane works beautifully. I have used wit the Bogan 501 and the 503 head. Currently its on its own dedicated tripod with a 503 head.

It's very stable and smooth. The key with these type of cranes/jibs is obtaining the the proper balance of weights to obtain a "neutral" balance in any position. This helps offset the momentum as you easy your movement from pan/tilt to a stop. Once this done and its not hard, you add production value with the pleasent shots you can achieve.

what weight did you use to offset your dvx?

In the 5.5' configuration I am using 9.5lbs. With the full 8' asembly I use 17'lb.

Position is also important! The weights can be moved forward or back on the weight bar to fine tune the balance and possibly limit weight. When I have the 8' crane setup I extend the weight bar out the back of the crane frame to get more leverage with less weight. I am using standard barbell weights with the 1" diameter center hole purchased at Wal-mart.

I have scribe marks on the crane's weight bar to allow for fast repeatable setups and when switching between creane lengths. If you only buy one length crane then life is really simple.
