Rycote Baby Ball Gag size for Oktava.

Does anyone know for sure what Rycote Baby Ball Gag size will fit an Oktava MK-012? I assume it's the 20mm verison, but I'd like a confirmation from someone's direct experience.

Yes, 20 mm fits perfect. I have one used with this mic. Do another search and you will find countless other posts confirming this.
 
This will be a stupid question, so bear with me. I don't have my Oktava yet but have the BBG now. I know from specs the capusle on the oktava will be a little larger, it wont fit through the 20mm BBG? How do you get it in? (guess could wait and see myself since dont have both together yet...)
 
The BBG seperates in the center. It is threaded - twist firmly but carefully. Open it up, insert octava, close again.
 
You can either insert the Oktava from the other end, or unscrew the Oktava.

I opt for the third option and that is just force it through.
 
I have a baby ball gag with a 25mm diameter. Too big for the Oktava MK012, though do you think it could be modified to work? Would the mic be affected if I rolled tape around it to make a snug fit?

I was looking at buying another one for the Oktava but they are expensive and this one is in perfect condition.
 
It's funny I thought it twisted off, tried it, but wouldnt budge. Heard a crack, decided maybe I'd make sure and ask here before I twist in pop it some more. Anyways yup comes off, thanks for answering my obvious question.

I did the same thing when I got mine.:)
 
as did i! once it's off - it seems obvious. but staring at that plastic ball ... i was about ready to just roll it down the stairs and let the dog play with it!
 
Did the same thing with my BBG. I was just about to post when I figured it out. Rycote should throw some quickie instructions in there - or maybe they can't afford it given that small profit margin of theirs. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
 
ok i'm going to order the rycote bbg 20mm from b&h (when they get them back in stock)

this is definitely the best fitting one for the oktava mk-012?

Great thread - I got a 22mm BBG and when I couldn't seem to unscrew it, I counted my lucky stars that the Octava just barely squeezed through the 22mm BBG opening. Thanks for the sharing the secrets of the dark science!
