Michaelagelo was a total Douchebag. doesnt mean his work is any less good. ( no to compare KAnye to Mikey... but illustrating a point)

Did you guys miss this part? the part in the parenthesis? LOl.....

This thread is just funny. Were arguing over nothing. Were trying to quantify taste.

A lot of great artists are insane in the head, undoubtedly.

The Human League back in 1977 thought that guitars had no place in music anymore, and went around proclaiming this on many college radio stations. The people hated them, showering them with beer bottles for making music with only synthesizers.

But look at their impact on the 80's, they pretty much made synth-pop. Maybe Kanye West is egotistical, but he isnt too bad at what he does.

EDIT: Look at that, I finally posted.

We agree to Disagree. Cool John ?

Always. And thanks for not being hypersensitive. It's all conversation fellas. It's as if we were sitting around throwing back pints.

PLEASE STOP THE HATING! EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT, AND IF WE WERE ALL THE SAME THE WORLD WOULD BE A BORING PLACE. JUST B/C YOU DON'T LIKE HIP-HOP MUSIC, PLEASE DON'T KNOCK IT. THE REASON YOU DON'T LIKE IT IS PROBABLY B/C YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING IN THE LYRICS. ITS CALLED "READING BTWN THE LINES".

Probably a generalization to say that but duely noted. I am not a gangsta nor I have never been a victim of racism but I surely was not / nor have any silver spoons in my possession but do readily admit I do not have the full understanding of Mr West's perspective.

But Kanye has a bad attitude. And we've heard it all before. I am familiar with his music and I like it (My 17 year old nephew is into hip hop); it is unique and something I have'nt heard before in hip-hop but it's the egotistical attitude. It's the I AM LEGEND proclamation. Let it come from the people. Let the people decide.

And the bible comment; dude. Bro. Kanye.

And with the racist attitudes; I think my biggest problem with the race card is that it's time to put it away. Isn't it ? Every year a new rapper comes out and starts moaning about the MAN and growing up in the tough life and blah blah blah ....

Do something positive. Isn't anyone concerned with legacy ? With example ? ****ing lead man don't alienate and create lines.

What exactly is so "absurd" about the lyrics?

Kanye's just important as Michael Jordan
Was to the NBA when he was scorin'

Now. we all know Jordan is my man. Why is he comparing himself to the legend and stature of Mike ? Why ? (Dog's and cat's living together) That's an insult to Mike.

lol, who gives a damn what anyone thinks, they claim they dont like rap, or hip hop, who cares, you most likely don't like country, and for all you know they do. Its all a matter of taste, just like when it comes to women, some like them brunettes, blonds, blue eyed, brown eyed, tall, slim, short, white, black, brown, who cares.

I care what each of us thinks. That's the great thing about stimulating conversation. Without respect for another's take then none of it is relevant.

And I like:

Tall, slender, brown-eyed brunettes. (And I married one. My brother likes slender petite blondes with big tits and married a tall, big boned, brunette sow; scoreboard.)

or a hallmark card gone berserk!
Mandatory ban to disrespect The Beatles. :kali: :violent5:

What can we do.

Speaking of Gansta Rap ...

The old school Mafioso must just be ****ing laughing at these guys. Can you guys see the Cosa Nostra making records and singing about it?

They say your attitude determines your latitude
I'm high as a motherpoo pooer - fly as a motherpoo pooer
And still the motherpoo pooer you love to hate
But can't - because you love what I make
Now ain't - that about a *****
And I'ma talk shi* until I'm out of hits
They don't want to turn they speakers up they claim I ain't deep enough
All that talkin' I feed off of - keep it up
I'm relaxin' my feet is up - I'm leavin' you haters
Like when Shaq left the Lakers just to "Heat" it up
I state the stats to stunt - I don't need to front
I make history e'ry day - I don't need a month
The survey says - by the streets according
Kanye's just important as Michael Jordan
Was to the NBA when he was scorin'
Ralph Lauren was borin' before I wore him and..

Jesus christ. I imagine those pea brain lyrics inspire you.......Who said anything about me (or anyone) not liking hip-hop. I understand EVERYTHING in the lyrics. You would have to have the cranial cavity the size of a stink bug not to understand these lyrics.

Now--On the topic of misunderstandings.....You must not have read any of the above posts. Do you really think a cultural gap or a lack of understanding is the reason for this negative response.

On second thought-Maybe I'm just "playa hatin" -learn how to speak **** in english.

You're making this point as if Kanye West is coming from the underground w/ the world against him. He's sold quite a few albums. Nobody is questioning his "approach" on making bubble gum bull crap for the RC's to package and sell like candy to simple minded Americans. The only thing seperating him from the mainstream rap market is his lack of (claimed) 187's under his belt.

Please don't take offense to this thread, as I have an uplifting belief in the American economy: In order for "person A" to make money, "Person B" has to waste money. Kanye West sets a pretty low standard, all the while helping person A. Hopefully I'll be able to take advantage of this system of mental retardation as "Person A."

I see Kanye as a black Moby. He’s got talent, but he's become so full of himself. Originally his music didn’t have the hard edge that most rap does. The lyrics were uplifting and supported by dope beats. His first music videos didn’t rely on hoochie mommas shaking their rumps, but rather on content. The more popularity he gained the bigger his head got and he started saying stupid things and acting like an ungrateful a-hole. He is digging his own grave. In the parody they should have cloned Kanye as his own backup dancers so he could grind up on himself. I find the parody as funny as South Park. Most of what they are saying is true. I still like his first couple songs and the collaboration with Adam Lavine, but the dude should think before he opens his mouth.

Peace -Kevin

kanye is a complete and utter tool. he has an interview in playboy and he just comes across as the biggest prick on the planet.

the only other person whose attitude I can compare him to is the guy who wrote and directed the boondock saints. great movie, but the guy was a complete and royal asshole. he thought the world owed him EVERYTHING, and he thought he was above it all, and took every opportunity to put other people down.

In the end the guy from boondock saints was left penniless and incapable of ever working in hollywood again. If anything, it shows that hollywood has more chutzpah when dealing with aholes than motown.

Right thats it I'm taking things into my own hands:

What Constitutes A Genius?

From Wikipedia [1]

"A genius is a person with distinguished mental prowess. This can manifest either as a foremost intellect, or as an outstanding creative talent. The IQ of a genius is usually defined as 140 or more. The term also applies to one who is a polymath, or someone skilled in many mental areas. The term specifically applies to mental rather than athletic skills, although it is also colloquially used to denote the possession of a superior talent in any field; e.g., Pelé may be said to have a genius for soccer or Gandhi for diplomacy."

Therefore I decided, the only way to know if Kanye West is a Genius would be for him to take an IQ test, I did just that to see for fun what I would be rated at, my results[2]:

IQ133.jpg

So essetially if Kanye West can score more than 140 then the arugument is settled.

P.S. My results was rather spot on, I'm currently writing my book, and those results indicate thats what I'm good at!

As Far as Kanye, I like the guy. Hip Hop and music needs him right now. We need artist like him who doesn't think like everyone else. He speaks his mind, people will not always agree with what he has to say, oh well, you can't please everybody, but as far as his music, if you don't like hip-hop then automatically you're not going to appreciate his lyrics, but if you're a hip-hop fan you can.

As far as Mencia, I never seen his show, but I thought he was Latino, he comes off to be...

I always find it funny when the subject of kanye comes up.
Anyone that has a good acpreciation for hip hop music and havent limited themselfs to what the media has provided for you has known that kanye has been around for a while now. Why wasnt he such a big subject before? Its because he was actually a cool guy who was always crap'd on for his music and such.
Now that he has fame what is he doing? crapping on everyone right back.
Musical genius? no way. His lyrics are average at best and he knows it. His production work is what got him where he is now.
Marketing genuis? pretty damn close to it!
This guy is causing soooooo many waves its crazy. and you know what they say, there is no such thing as bad press. As long as his name is out there big companies will throw money at him.
Got to give him credit for that. Love him or hate him, he knows what he's doing.

P.S Oh and mencia's comedy is garbage.

Funny, this thread is similar to the "Similo" thread; in terms that a lot of haters have been exposed.

Everybody loves a loser but hates a winner.

I see it all the time here with the Cubbies and my Sox. But, thats another topic.
As was said earlier, we can respectfully agree to disagree.

Wow I just read the whole thread and I have to say that everybody that made point here is valid and correct in their own right.
Kayne West is an artist and art is subjective to the perception of whoever is examining it. There are some painting that I look at and think eww this is ugly but other people may find it wonderfull because they see something in that painting that I don't see and it speaks to them. I can't tell that person what they see isn't real because it's real to them thus making both of us right.

In regards to Rap as a whole there are lots of artist that don't have any artistic vision and there goal is to make money and I understand that, I don't have a problem with that either because for every person that dislikes their album there must be lots of people that like it and enjoy it. In the matter of Kayne West I saw someone post some lyrics of his where he wasn't talking about the greatest subjects in the world and they might not be all that complicated but please read the lyrics to "all falls down" . He has a good message in that and it's great song.

For anybody that wants to listen or read some complex rapping go and listen/read canibus I guarantee you you will feel smarter. When I started listening to him there were times I had to get on google to find out what he was saying and I was amazed. Sometimes when we listen to music it's no always what they said but how it made us feel. We aren't always the most intelligent people. We get angry for stupid reasons , we cry just because and we laugh at things that are just stupid as well. I actually like country because I think it has a lot to do with how you feel. Rap is the same way. You might hear "let's get crunk" in a song and think hey that's stupid why would they think that good music but it speaks to someone just maybe not you. So to finish this all up everybody is different and just because you like blue, green, yellow or orange doesn't make the other colors any less of a color.

to all who hates kanye,

how could you hate or dislike someone just b/c of what you see on tv and etc.. get to know someone 1st b4 you judge. he does what he likes and gets PAID for it. bottom line. i can almost guarantee that all of you who talk sh*t about him would accept a job dealing w/ video production if you were commissioned to. and you wouldn't say SH*T about how you don't like him. :) or better yet, why don't you impact society in some way.

im done.

It's pretty easy to dislike someone based on what you see on t.v. If someone makes an ass out of themselves on t.v., is that not enough? Are you saying that you've never disliked someone based on statements they've made publicly? If someone said that Anna Nicole Smith is a blubbering cracked out idiot do I have to try and meet her to agree, or is she cutting out all the work by proving it to me through what she does on television?

What does someone accepting a video production job have to do with anything? Not sure where you were going with that.

That's my basic underlying bullet point right there Slim

Don't chalk it up to being a 'hater' (The Similo comparison is absurd; please....) and I don't think anyone here is disputing individual tastes in music. Kevin Briggs said it nicely:

I see Kanye as a black Moby. He’s got talent, but he's become so full of himself. Originally his music didn’t have the hard edge that most rap does. The lyrics were uplifting and supported by dope beats. His first music videos didn’t rely on hoochie mommas shaking their rumps, but rather on content. When you start saying 'player hater' or someone does not like rap or that someone is ignorant then you're just insulting that person's opinion on the matter and risking turning into a black -vs- white, rapfan -vs- non-rapfan? ...

My point is he is becoming an egostistical asshole. Fame and success are not mututal with being a prick. He is digging his own grave everytime he opens his trap and his success does not give him the role of being a prick without criticism. Who cares if it is for marketing or hype and who cares how long he's been around or his influence on music. The point is; he sounds like a prick in love with himself:

And he's a rapper.

-

So, stop making about player hating and stop assuming people can't understand the 5th grade level reading of the lyrics and let's stop making an anti-hip hop campaign.

I don't have a problem with a celebrity opening their trap, but it better be intelligent and so far, it hasn't been.
