Macally self powered USB 2.5" case - anyone tried it?

That would probably work. Don't know how fast it would be or how long the battery lasts; plus we've been seeing other enclosures for half the price so unless that one's really fast, it seems expensive.

I dont see an estimated time of the battery charge.... anyone else?

1200mAH Li-Ion battetry, charge time 2~3 hours after fully load use standalone time continously 1~2 hours, if connected to comp several hours. In host mode (standalone) support FAT16/32.

Ahhhh, now i remember these. A client use to bring them into my work to offload files for editing. I remember these enclosures and i remember them well because they would get hot, VERY hot. We had the FW800 3.5" versions, the bigger brother to the battery powered 2.5" mentioned here. One even failed on us because its temp was so high.

Im not sure about this model, but that is one thing i always worry about when buying such a "bargin basement" enclosure... is it safe???

Im trying to find more expensive, better engineered, versions of these battery powered enclosures, truth is they dont seem to exist. Personally i would like to see a complete battery powered 1.8" or 2.5" HDD with black anodized aluminum housing, good temp controll, option for extra battery pack, and possibly the combination of firewire 400 USB2 and FW800.
