New Star Wars Revelations Trailer is Up...

Lol Specialed !

I agree; acting is the first ingredient that blows your flick out of the water. The story is the last.

Everything else better fall into place.

Just think how cool it could have been if it was unique though

it could have been sweet as hell if it was pulled off. the same can be said for the last three made by lucas. shitty acting begets shitty acting.

Get the hell out of here.
I would hardly call Liam Neeson, Christopher Lee, Ewan McGregor, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson or Terence Stamp shïty actors.
I know the prequels are far from perfect, but come on...shïty acting?
That's just Lucas-bashing for the sake of Lucas-bashing IMO.

Even quality actors can suck when they are working with a crappy director. He didn't say they were bad actors.

Granted, I think you could argue Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman's performances weren't the best (and yes, even Samuel L in episode III)...

but to generalize the acting as shïty is unfair. I thoroughly enjoyed Liam Neeson's performance, as well as Christopher Lee's...and Ewan McGregor embodied a younger Alec Guinness pretty damned well (And those were some mighty big shoes to fill.)

I would argue that that what damaged the prequels overall (besides the great over-use and abuse of CG) was the fact that Lucas didn't follow the game plan that he established with the original...he should have handed them off to another director (like he did with Empire and Jedi.) That and he shouldn't have taken part in the writing process directly, but instead acted as an adviser.

Cheers

i agree with you callaghan. Ewan McGregor is one of my favorite actors, and he did a damn good job as a young Alec Guiness. Sam Jackson is a great actor but his acting in III was pretty bad at times. Neeson was good in Episode I. I can agree that Portman (yes i said it) and Hayden were pretty bad at times. Overall I agree with you Callaghan

It is Lucas bashing to call it bad acting, but it isnt for the SAKE of Lucas bashing.
They are good actors, but any actor could look at those movies and know they they are just reading lines off a page in many moments. The whole three eps are just flat Flat FLAT. I wanted to stab my leg to stay away, until the light sabers turn on, and then I just can't sleep even though I want to because of the noise.

Bad acting. But I would call it bad because of the direction, because only a director can get a whole bunch of good actors together and have them do that poorly.

exactly it! i never said bad actors, i said bad acting.

im not going to defend my love of star wars. im not gonna tell you how i have action figures, video games, and lightsabers made out of pvc pipe from when i was a kid. im not gonna tell you how even though everyone i knew thought i was a giant nerd, i'd drag my college buddies to see all the movies one the first midnight showing, sometimes buying tickets weeks in advance. oh ****, i guess i am.

its not lucas bashing, its feeling like lucas let me down. sure, they still were cool movies. but they could have been a helluva lot better. its lucas' fault for asking for such stoic performances from all of these great actors.

Appreciated.

But, what I'm saying is I don't feel that these films failed on every level (though they admitingly did so on many levels.) Like I said what hurts them the most is the poor writing and the decision by Lucas at the last possible hour to helm all three. Originally he was gonna only sit in the directors chair for the first prequel, then he was to hand the reins over to someone else (or a pair of someone elses) for following two. That all changed (for whatever delusions of grandure he was struck with) and he thought he could handle the hat trick.

Big, Big mistake on his part!

I also believe that Lucas has become a hardcore CGI junkie, and someone should seriously interveen before it's too late. (The low point of his addiction was with episode II IMO.)

To make a long story short, Liam Neeson's character has NEVER struck me as someone who was just reading lines off a page. His portrayal of Qui Gon was quite moving in fact.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree...
but I can't believe that you believe every actor turned in a shïty performance...and I still, for the life of me, can't believe that anyone can say that these films fail at every bloody level.
For Christ's sake...just remember the battle between Liam Neeson/Ewan McGregor & Darth Maul (with John Williams' masterful "Duel of the Fates" blasting)...that was amazing stuff.

I think the new films fail on many many levels. The only thing I like about them is that they are Star Wars.

Guess I don't need much, but that's what I love 'em for... I've said it before: if I ever was to judge Star Wars movies as any other movie, I'd find many, many flaws... but they're something I just let myself immerse in and get away for 2 hours. And as long as the prequels allow me to do that, as long as I can dive into SW universe once again, I'm a happy camper.
Though, I've never had any of the movies' action figures or dressed like a jedi/stormtrooper. And I *can* see where the new episodes failed (sometimes miserably), but it's something I don't let bother myself...

When did Star Wars ever have good acting? It never did. The original trilogy was just as bad. That's not what is awesome about Star Wars.

You're joking, right?
April Fool's on ol' Callaghan, right?
Star Wars had unknown actors for the time (save for Guinness and Cushing)...
but one thing it absolutely did not have was bad acting!
Oy Vey!

I gotta disagree with ya there Noct.

Alec Guiness' Obi-Wan was great. Harrison Ford was a great Han Solo. James Earl Jones' voice acting is great. Peter Cushing was good. Ian McDiarmad's Emperor was great in ROTJ. Across the board everyone was good.
