Help! Feathering in Adobe Premiere Pro

Hi all,

I'm doing a photo montage using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. Basically, I have a few hundred photos to include in the montage & I've chosen a pastel background. So in Adobe Premiere, I have the pastel background in "Video 1" (bottom layer) & the pictures will go into "Video 2" (top layer).

Since all my photos have sharp rectangle edges when seen over the pastel background, can I kind of soften just the edges of the photos, so that it blends in smoothly with my pastel background? In Photoshop, I know the term is called feathering, but I don't know how to "feather" the photos in Adobe Premiere.

If Premiere can't do this, can Adobe After Effects 6.5 do it & how do I feather it in After Effects, then bring it back into Premiere? Much thanks in advance.

I will be animating the pictures a bit like zoom ins, zoom outs, a bit of rotations, movement from left to right & vice versa.

here is a more simple idea i think.

Do all your photo manipulation in photoshop and bring em into premiere and youre done, do the look u want in photoshop!

Andrew,
In the 'transform' folder in video effects there is an edge feather effect that I think will do what you want. In the 'perspective' folder there is some alternative edge effects like bevel edge and drop shadow effects.

As saturnin suggested, you could also do the edge effect in Photoshop. It's probably more work but also more flexible. You can record a series of steps in an 'action' and then automate it to process each slide in a batch mode. For example, I use this technique to resize all the pics before loading them into Premiere.
