Ok DVX User guys, In your infinite and ever expanding knowledge do you think you could answer a few simple 'need to knows' for a bright eyed, young, up 'n' comer. After all it is you who got me all horny about making movies. Anyhow....

- Any of you ever heard of the New York Film Academy? http://www.nyfa.com I am thinking about taking their 4 week digital film making course. I think it would be cool to learn how to shoot, light, edit etc. down at Universal Studios in Hollywood. The price isn't that bad either $2500. What do you guys think?

- I really wanna go out and buy my first DVX100 like right now!!! But..... I was thinking maybe I should wait until I get back from the course (If I go...), that way I could get farmiliar with their DVX100's and then buy my own. That being said, what do you think of this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.ca/PANASONIC-AG-DVX100B-2500-Pro-Package-New_W0QQitemZ7604533355QQcategoryZ20332QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

- Lastly, I want to buy an adapter, I like the micro35 and the guerilla35. My question is do either of these adapters require me to use a mirror on the lcd viewfinder to see the image properly and if so does it come with? I guess I could ask the guys who sell these things but what the hell, I'll ask you guys first.

Ok so thats it, thanks in advance and if it turns out that I make a million bucks off my first production I promise I won't share it with anyone ;)

Getti,

The New York Film Academy is great for a 'total immersion' experience for the 4 week intensive. It's also a good value for the education and resources (i.e. Universal backlot) available to you IMHO. Definitely go to an open house first to be sure.

I would consider getting the DVX100 before you go, unless you're not sure if you want to do digital filmmaking? That way, you can become familiar with it and focus on the movie making process instead of the technical aspects for the 4 weeks. Those 4 weeks will go by fast!

My 2 cents. You can pay me after your first million.

Id be worried about buying that camera.... but wait til someone from the states chimes in on it. They can tell you the whys.

Right on. I wouldn't buy the camera from Ebay. That's just asking for trouble. Buy through a company like EVS (www.evsonline.com).

Here's what I did: I had already worked in the business for a few years doing grip and PA work (with the occasional camera op gig) so I wasn't a total noob. I spent about 6-8 months on this site, reading everything I could (and I mean everything). Then I bought the camera and all the other fun stuff you need (tripod, lights, mics, etc.).

Everyone has their own way of doing things, but that's worked for me.

Wow........It's such a huge price difference!! I would love to pay as little as possible, at the same time I don't want to get a bunk camera or poor service. These ebay guys have a pretty good positive feedback score - over 15000 sales and 97.7% positive feedback. Does the Manufacturer Mail-In Rebate that I see advertised at EVS apply to all new DVX100b's no matter where you buy from? Did you guys all get this rebate?

Getti.... dude... seriously. buy it from EVS. Spend the extra money, because if anythign goes wrong, PAnasonic, and EVS will literally repair it like asap.

a guy got a DVX from EVS that was dammaged, and they replaced it lickety split.

These Ebay guys are selling Grey Markey cameras. this means they were bough in like, Nariobi... or something ands are resold here cheap. It IS the same camera, but it has ZERO support from panasonic. IT is totally a DVX100B, but its not an american one. Maybe it "fell off a truck" in MExico, or Venezuela , and found its way here. Get the picture. If youre willling to take the chance its on you, but i would pay the extra for the security of having a propper waranty.

Well arright then....that last reply pretty much made up my mind. I found an authorized dealer here in Canada ( http://www.vistek.ca ) that has them in stock for a pretty good price so it won't be long now:-) Thanks for all the help ..... Nobody answered my last question about the lcd mirror, is that cause it was a noobie question.... oh well.

dude. Did you buy it yet? Check out DVSHOP.CA. They have great prices and are in TO as well. It's the same price actally but it comes with a free 2 year warranty. At vistek, it costs 300 bucks. :S
