Do you view actors differently because of their views or personal life?

If what actors do/say in ther personal lives kept me from seeing their movies, I'd never see a single movie.

On the other hand, I find myself hating an actor or an actress simply because of one role, or simply because of their demeanor in something as simple as a normal talk show interview.
Eric Roberts is that actor for me. Just can't stand him.

Downey.. I feel bad for me. Honestly. He could be in some great movies, but he was recently in SHAGGY DOG. I haven't seen him do something EXTREMLEY WORTHWHILE in a long long time. I think he wants to quit his addiction though, but he needs help. He seems like a hurt person.

I dunno, I have been WAITING For Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang forever. It didnt come to theaters in my town and I keep hearing amazing things about it. I am so souped to see it. I think he's jusst getting paid, and doing what he can. People recognize him still as an actor, I believe.

I try to seperate the actor and the person. If an actor (say Tom Cruise) says something I don't agree with that's fine. It's not going to keep me from seeing their movie.

That being said I've gotten involved in some organizations because I Agree with actors beliefs.

That's all I have to say about that.

Ha! My moms won't see any Johnny Depp movies ever since he moved to France. I dunno, she also warned us kids to never run over a paper bag in the road b/c there might be a bomb in it. Yeah, that's my mom. If she were in a movie, would you guys boycot now?

As far as downey...he just did Good Night, And Good Luck. Was worthwhile for a lot of people...

exactly. ;)

I got involved with the ONE campaign to help fight AIDS and poverty because I agree that its a big problem that needs to be faced. Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, and a slew of others help out with that, and I think it's a noble cause for them to fight for. I applaud their efforts. I got involved cause of Hanks and Pitt and my belief that we need to help people.

Like actress Winona Ryder ? I wouldn't hire her theiving ass.

I'd hire her; I'd just keep my wallet in my front pocket during production.

I don't avoid movies because of a dislike for an actor. I don't care what an actor says or does in his personal life. That's not to say it doesn't affect me. It took me a good 20 minutes of watching War of the Worlds before I could watch without expecting Tom to run away from the aliens into someone's house and start jumping on their couch. I don't care if Cruise jumps on couches on Oprah, but it did affect my movie watching experience. But I think that speaks more to how I felt about that movie.

The Pope of Greenwich Village...definitely a guilty pleasure for me.

Eric Robert's is an enigma. I actually enjoy his work:

Can you believe this dude has done 145 films ?

I liked

Best of the Best
Runaway Train
The Coca-Cola Kid
The Pope of Greenwich Village
Star 80
Raggedy Man

I thought he was great in The Specialist

Sorry. The only movie I thought he was remotely watch-able in was The Pope of Greenwich Village. My complaint is his incessant whining. It may be a bad rap but it's just the way I see it. :undecided

Although I disagree with the fact that politics and/or different ideas or lifestyles may affect my viewpoint of the actor - no it doesn't. The problem is especially when it comes to politics, in our culture i.e. American culture(that's europe and the US) we don't listen to serious intellectuals, we're fed by celebrities, we dress like them and act like them. They're our demigods. I remember Paddy Chafesky(sp?) went on a rant about Vanessa Redgraves speech on the oscars about how you shouldn't make the oscars a public platform for your own views - well i say Paddy, that's oxymoronic coming from someone who wrote Network. Celebritys don't owe us anything, but they have should use their position to condemn what is wrong. For example i can't give a rats ass about Sheen, but i do agree with his comments. I agree with Sean penn, but i think he;s a kook for taking himself too seriously. Does it effect my viewpoint of them? Not really. Saying that, when i heard that Vince Vaughn, (who i love as an actor), supports Bush and his policies - I didn't like him - but then who cares! I still love him. I'll carry on watching his movies. However, people like Michael Moore, who I hate, not for his politics but his sheer arrogance and hyprocrisy, i won't be watching anything of his in the near future. So it all depends. Unfortunatly because of our way, we listen to celebritys, and celebritys are aware of that. So let them voice injustices. On the flipside however, the media and film has been in the past as powerful propoganda pieces for hatred for one people or another. So that might be something i am afraid of.

I DO AGREE WITH YOU. now Michael Mooreier i like because he's the flip side of the coin, like for instance Rush Limbagh i would listen to him rant about half truths or should i say quarter truths, then people like Moore, then read the paper, then i would form my opinon.like Malcom X once said sometimes you got to slap people in the face to wake them up. i changed his exact words to fit my rant but it gets my point across

Depends how much of a jack ass they are off screen and what stupid things come out of their mouths. Actors are only human after all and while I wouldn't patronage a bustiness establishment because of the owner's view's/remarks, I also won't go see a movie if I can no longer separate an actor from their own stupidity... Mr. Vitametavegamin Cruise is my best example.
