Hi, I have a big problem and need some help.

I just rendered my 1 hour 30 minute video as mpeg2 set for dvd architect, problem is its 4.21 gigs,..... but dvds can hold 4.8 right?? well when I put the video into DVD architect it sais Ive used about 5 gigs? does dvd architect steal some of my disc space for its menu?? ALso when I go to prepare it it sais not enough room in the folder to prepare, does this mean that I dont have enough room on my hard drive?

How can i get my movie on a dvd and if It has to go onto 2 is there a way to just split it in a burning program or do I have to re-render 2 sections?
Please help!

DVDs hold 4.3

But, anway, DVDA seems to be notorious for misestimating the size and can often be ignored (if you just prepare using it and burn with something else like Nero).

On the other hand, if it says you don't have enough room on the hard drive...you probably don't.

Actualy, I just split it up into 2 files, one is about 2.5 gigs and the other about 1.5 gigs, I tried burning a DVD of the one with 2.5 gigs, I have 5.03 gigs of space left on my hard drive and it still sais there is not enough room in the folder to prepare....

Also if I do prepare and burn with nero, how do I do that, I tried that before but it didnt seem to work.

Your drive might need defragmenting. The space may be there, but not in big enough blocks to hold the files.

Anyway...to burn with Nero once it's already prepared? I just drag the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder of the prepared DVD to the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero. (I have no idea what all those files are, or if any can be ignored, so I put 'em all in.)

I've never had any problem with doing it that way.

You need twice the hard disk space plus memory alloction for the software as the computer is processing both the source file and the new conversion simulatiously and reserving space for the new file on your system.

Sounds reasonable. Never really thought about it.

I always add a hard drive when the current one(s) reach 75% full, so I never ran into that particular problem. :)

First just totally ignore the "Disc Space Used" estimate and burn your disc.

This same problem came up for me today- AFTER burning the disc last night- the EXACT same file mpeg. Yesterday it estimated the project using the 4.3GB size file (as shown in my computer's folder) file as 4.7 GB finished project size, just fine.

For some inexplicable reason, today it estimated the EXACT same project, using the exact sime file and everything else (I just opened the same DAR project again today) as a 5.05 GB project, alledgedly too big for a single disc.

????

This main absolutely no sense, because I burned it several times yesterday without issue. Why it would suddenly tack on all this extra project size I have no idea, but it did.

So I tried to burn it anyway.

It burned fine, and when done, it revised the project size back down to 4.7GB after it finished.
