Send me a plane ticket and a contract...Done! (Assuming you are talking US dollars and didn't add an extra zero there :) ).

But seriously...are you starting a production house? $35,000 USD will get you pretty well outfitted. Who is gonna use the equipment? Hiring a mixer and boom op for a month or two will come in under that and get you the best possible results. If there are not sound guys in your area, post an inquiry at RAMPS and I will bet you will get several guys willing to travel to you for a fair price.

Otherwise I would gladly post up a nice professional package you can get for around $35,000.

Good luck

what is ramps ?

cant hire people who dont speak Georgian and frankly the locals are not so good to read the manuals as well ,and why spend on someone if i can do it alone ,how hard it can be ?

it might be i ll need someone who will hold the stick ,ill try to find someone tall from the local basketball team ,they are quit cheap .
we are shooting here in Georgia 2000meter above the sea level ,very cold ,so i need very robast equipment

My brother is the producer and he is telling me that the sound is a waist of money and we can do everithing by looping later .
so what do you suggest - do i need external recorder as well , does the mini disk is good for that ?
35000 euro by the way , might be more if i will get some money in advance .
my brother is very hard on spending money ;-(, last film i brought my own lunch ( i worked as director assistant -very boring job , i like to do sound. i heard its very exiting and not so hard )

hmm i thought that might be my brother is right and its better to loop .
its to much work to get good sound and we dont have to much actors and dialog , mostly its one person who is modern Robinson Crusoe on lonely planet after ship crashed , so only dialog are in flashbacks .
he mostly talking to the animals until he meet the Friday alien -so maybe we can run a guide track and do some dubbing later ?

Well, here is the thing: It really is a waste of money if your producer is just as happy looping later. If this is what he wants, go with that. You will not be the first.

Once that attitude to location sound is determined by the producer, the attitude flows downward and getting good sound on location becomers a waste of time and money (at least I have learned to not join these crews).

Just use the camera mic

Georgia, cool. My sister lives in Mississippis...oh, not THAT Georgia. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
Good luck with the sound. I would take some of the 35000 euros and upgrade to the HVX and still have plenty of money left over for sound.

So ,you say my brother is an idiot?
( he is my half brother ,we share same pa)
I Still think that natural sound would be better , so what do i need to get it best way , as you see i have good budget and very limited education.
what are the mics i need and what kind of mixer and recorder , does my Sony minidisc will do the job or i need something better - or is it better to run directly to the camera?
i heard that there is company in US which making digital link so the sound is good as wire -do you know something about ,since all the shootings will be hand held and we are going to shoot allot with snap link on the rocks ( no budget for special effects),i just got the script and the guy have allot of hallucinations and visions caused by poison food he ate and mushrooms so there is quit allot of talking in some scenes and all that happens when the people are flying around .
, it might be they plan to put them on wire and after that to mask it in post - so i need wierless i guess , what brand do you suggest ?
Ok ,what is the audio package i need to movie like that
thanks

sorry i am in other GEORGIA (GRUZIA)and we do use the 200 .
for me they all the same , the privius film we did were 35 or
or the Sony 900
like i sad ,there is allot of hand held and the dp is on the ropesin many shotes .

aka,
I understand what you're asking. Mostly handheld...? Spend some money on a tripod, perhaps a stabilizer. You're going to find that you can get your sound cheaper than 35k. Use you budget wisely. Look at your story and see what you're currently skimping on and see if you can use some of the money there. Sound is REALLY important, but you want to have nice pictures, too. I would suggest reading the posts The Yankee pointed out. Or perhaps some of MattinSTLs posts.

this is the sound budget ,which include the second audio person ( the stick holder) celery as well ( something around 70 euro per week, we shoot 6 weeks )
the camera department has it own budget , i figured that i am short about 5000 for a good rig after i was reading few threads ( we have vit so the real budget is 20% less)
i was reading some posts from the guy you pointed , but it seems he never did something in that style ,not that i have more knowledge , i really dont know allot but it seems that he is in low budget and i like to jump directly 4 classes .( i dont afraid -my brother will not fire me , might be he will bring me some help if ill really mess the stuff or will do adr instead , ok you have to start shave on someone back so my brothers looks good for that matter )

Okay, that makes more sense now that you've explained that.
I was getting the impression that this was VERY LOW budget but you had a big budget for sound. My mistake. :)

so you want someone to put together a kit for you that has a maximum budget of 35,000 euros (equal to about $48,000 USD) minus 20%?

Jeremy

i guess it might come to that , few wierless whith 60-80 meter range external antennas and rf disterbutor , 2 mixer,2 sticks , wind protection ,few microphones since i was reading one is not good and 2 is ok but we are on the mountain and i need back up everything ,and as it seems i will need to back up my minidisk with some multitrack as well :-)
laptop, small lcd ,good lavalieres , what brand should i look?
3 headphoes and few cheap for ifb

batteries , cables , ifb set whith 2 transmitters and 5 recievers - 40 is not so much -and i dont want to buy used.
few bags and some small trolley that i can take with me .

Who is Oleg, is he Russian ,does he speak Georgian ?
Why do you think he can answer my questions ,what does he do ?

He is a really interesting and smart guy with a quirky sense of humor. You remind me of him. :D

Aka,

Before we can help you scope out a package, where are you planning on purchasing? This may make a difference in terms of what equipment is available. Most of us are based in the U.S., where we have very good availability of lots of equipment. This will also effect the cost of the equipment (duty, taxes and shipping charges may apply).

But I will take a stab at it...(based on U.S. availability):

a. Shotgun microphone: Sennheiser 416 (very robust in difficult environments)
b. Shotgun microphone: Audio Technica 4073a (lower cost, can throw away if damaged, but still a good mic)
c. Hyper: Not sure what is the most robust on the high end (Schoeps seems to have a reputation of not working well in difficult environments)
d. Hyper: Octava M012 (again, low cost, can throw away)

Mixer: Cooper 104 or 106 (104 is over the shoulder, 4 inputs, 106 is a sit and mix).

Recorder: Sound Devices 744T (I recently read a report from another mixer that had his completely dunked in snow and it survived and kept going). The Cantar is a great recorder with 8 inputs, and the best of all is the Deva V with 10 inputs, but I have not heard much about working with either of those in difficult environments.

Wireless:

Lectrosonics 400 series Tx and Rx
Lavaliere: Countryman B6 (waterproof and robust)
Zaxcom is also very well thought of, but someone over in Europe recently reported a lot of problems with them.

IFB: Comtek, Lectrosonics and Sennheiser all make good sets, take your pick.

Boom: K-tek and VDB are both excellent brands

Shockmounts: K-tek

Blimp: Sennheiser

Windsock (furry thing that goes over the blimp): Sennheiser

Cables: You need good cables...I recommend you contact MattinSTL here on this board to make some for you.

Headphones: Sony 7506 is best for the mixer. Lots of different choices for IFB.

Power distribution: PSC

Slate: Don't forget to buy one...while it would be overkill, the Deneke TS3 is probably best.

If you're in a really cold environment, I would not recommend rechargable batteries. Just buy boatloads of regular batteries and toss them.

There are also lots and lots of other little things you will need (I'm not sure anyone here has ever posted a list) but generally you will need lots of connectors, short cables, bags, cases, etc. Hard to recommend on those, but just scan the B&H web site under audio accessories and you will be able to pick most of them out. Also, on the trolley, I recommend you look locally. There are lots of different brands of sound carts available here in the U.S. but I think all of them would cost a fortune to ship.

I hope this helps.

Phil
