The Films of John Carpenter

Yeah Landis, Mick Garris, Joe Dante, Tobe Hooper, Dario Argento, Don Cascarelli (sp?), Stewart Gordon, and John Carpenter. I'm sure I omitted a couple.

The series has been picked up by ShowTime and they're filming season 2 now. The first season will be released on DVD by Anchor Bay so you'll get to see all of them.

Again, personally I liked Carpenters and Cascarelli's the best. Mick Garris was good but the ending was awful. Stewart Gordon's was boring. Landis' had the worst ending hands down but with a hot chick...sort of. Joe Dante's was ok. Predictable and slow as was Argentos. Hooper's was like an acid trip with Robert Englund. I liked it. Not the best, but had some cool moments.

Sweet Horse!!!!

Prince of Darkness was cool and had a nice ending
Ghost from Mars was a fun movie with a huge rewatchability factor.

THE THING is one of the best movies i've seen. It weaved supense, horror, sci-fi, action, drama and comedy into one neat and not overly long movie.

How do you figure Ghosts has a huge rewatchability factor?

cause i watch it all the time:) Really though...it has some good action and fun and it isn't very long. I really like it.

The other thing is... don't talk about how avante garde and mysterious or amazing the film is and then show it and have it be nothing more than a weird Ring-esque series of images. Somethings are better left to the imagination or a combination of imagination and a series of quick cuts of images.

Thank you! I watched Cigarette burns last night and I agree it would have been so much better if we never would have seen the film. Some of the clips were creepy but a couple were laughable. Carpenter's direction was great, but the script was god-awful in my opinion. Way too derivative of the Ring.

I'm bringing back this thread instead of opening a new one. I saw a John Carpenter movie called Cigarette Burns in a series called Masters of Horror.

Anybody know anything about this series: Masters of Horror?

Cigarette Burns hits DVD today, so I'm heading to Best Buy when I get out of work.
I saw that one today and that's what prompted my post...

EDIT: I think it was like 10 bucks or so...

halloween = one of the best horror movies ever made
ANYONE with any intention of making a horror movie should be required to watch this movie. It is the standard.

I can never decide which i like better: Halloween or The Thing.

They are both compact near-perfectly executed films.

I think i like Halloween for A)What it represents and B) its simplicity.

However i absolutely love the atmosphere of The Thing. Carpenter crafted this amazing environment of FEAR, SUSPICION, and PARANOIA. I can't recall another film that comes close to creating this kind of tension. Absolutely amazing.

It makes me weep though that this man has attached his name to projects like Vampires, and Ghosts of Mars in recent years.....

His next film Psychopath is in pre-production. However for good or bad he co-wrote it with Todd Farmer the man who gave us the script for Jason X.

Take that as you will.

I too am bewildered at the demise to mediocority Capenter has taken.
As far as I'm concerned, the last good movie he made was Big Trouble in Little China in 1986.
