Doing some test on the Lectro 401/LM

Evil has Ears
Just got a new Lectro 401/UM. So far, amazing results. I have gotten my hands on a G2 with a B6 so I can run an A/B comparison tomorrow. If anybody has some space I can post up the results I will be glad to share them with the crowd here.

Cheers

Wabbit,

Email me off group and I can host them for you...we can put them up with my A/B comparisons of the B6, EMW and MK2.

(BTW, did you use a B6 for both kits?)

Phil

I have several B6 for the Lectro and the G2 has the B6 too. Only difference is the Lectro B6 is red band and G2 is grey band. Don't think that is a issue in comparing the two since the Lectro is hotter.

I did mis-speak, I have the Lectro UM400 transmitter not the LM. I have the LM on order but it has not arrived yet. The 401 receiver is exactly like the 201 in form.

I was pressed for time so the A/B test is not everything I hoped to do but the results are pretty significant. Also, I had the noise reduction set to full instead of normal as I had intended to do. If I get the time before I post up the file I will put in a sample of the Lectro at the different noise reduction levels, definately a HUGE difference.

The big downside of the 401 is the permenant whip antennas. It's not the end of the world and you get what you pay for, I can live with it. Also the battery life is moderate but acceptable.

I already sold one of my 200's, the other two are going bye bye ASAP.

I will edit down the files to a web size and get them up soon. I don't think I will have to tell you which side is which (the G2 was good pretty decent under straight use but fell apart under strain, the "key test" in particular was a disaster for the G2).

Thanks for the space Phil, I will pm you when I have a file to post.

Cheers

you can modify that, i know few who placed sma connectors on the top to use the 201 with external rf distributor
did yiu check the battery life whit alkaline or ni mh , the ni mh might stay much longer

I would love to know how to do that, you got a link or address to contact? Much of what I do is bag work but for cart jobs that would be great.

Alkaline, I will have to try out some NiMh.

Thanks

Wabbit,

Do you know off-hand if there is any difference between the LM and the 400 Tx other than range? There is quite a difference in price...

Phil

Yeah, less range at 50mW instead of 100mW and a fixed antenna instead of a deatchable whip. So the range will be decreased but if you are talking line of sight distance, both will get you further then the most distant video village. At 50mW or 100mW, interference is interference.

I will test the UM against the LM when it does arrive, but I don't think the difference in range will be consequential.

Honestly, I will take the added battery life over the additional range. :)

Cheers

Wabbit,

Sorry to pick your brain on this, but you've actually got them in hand...

Do you know if there is a way to use the sharkfin style antennae with the 401 Rx? Would that significantly improve the reception if I went LM instead of 400?

(I was getting ready to put a system together with my G2's, Senn sharkfins and antennae combiners...but now with the price of the 401's, I may have to rethink things...)

check on ramps or in lectro forum on yahoo, the guys who did it where from austarlia

Hey Phil,

That might be a better question for Oleg since he knows a people who retrofitted the 201. If it worked with the 201 it will almost definately work with the 401. Hopefully he will chime in when he gets up. :) What is it, like 4 am in Isreal right now?

Cheers

the lm is better then 50 , the actual number is depends on the block and it much more 70 mw in most
for the staright line is 10% less in range

the lm has fixed locut at 90hz
i worked whit few lm and um where mixed together and dint notest any difference in sound quality ( exept the lo cut)

Man, was I off. I forgot you can just click on the clock in Windows and get the timezones. Note to self: GMT+2 for Isreal.

Gonna do another test Tuesday or Wednesday and post the new results instead. I had a chance to do some tweaks to both the G2 and Lectro which will help to compare them more accurately.

Stay tuned
