Life of a 2nd AD

Brandon Rice

Distributed Producer
Ok, here's the first thing I ever edited on a computer. It's a documentary. I followed my friend, Joe, around on the set of one of Signature Fundraising's short films (this is before we had the production company, when we hired outside people to do the films). Hope you enjoy... I shot it on my Hi-8, didn't have my DVX yet. It's kinda funny.

i worked as an AD for 6 years. it is a tough job. you have to be 10 steps ahead of everyone and your ass is on the line. easy to become a dick about it.

cool vid BMAN.. thanks for sharing. would be a great idea to expand on. following a second AD around on a low budget feature film shoot could be quite funny.

Yeah... like I said, I just had my ol' Hi-8 and was hanging around the set trying to learn how it worked, and filming my mini-doc at the same time :)

Well being a dick yes but I am never a dick to my 2nd AD. He makes my life easer and if i'm a dick to him then I have to work harder.

so true. i always became a gaffers best friend as well. last thing you need as an ad is for the sparks to turn on ya.

ya the DP doesn't have to like you.. but if the gaffer and his crew don't like you they can give you a lot of trouble. the last film job i directed when the lighting truck arrived i personally went and introduced myself to the entire lighting crew and thanked them for being there before we started. it was totally worth it. they ended up kicking ass for me the entire 10 hour day and had a good time doing it.

You actually put it up! You are the man Brice! I remember picking out the soundtrack for that stinkin' thing. It was a fun time. Joe was great to let you follow him around. I think that was the second time I was on set for one of our short industrials.

Takes me back...
