HEY NBCSHOOTER! SDX = massive price drop!

How do you all of a sudden drop the price of a camera by $11,000? Things have suddenly gotten more interesting. The problem with the SDX900 for me would still be the work flow. Do I have to buy an expensive DVCPRO deck to import the footage or is there another cheaper way? I know one of my friends shot his film onto HD tapes but downconverted them all to DVCAM tapes for editing purposes. One has to believe that the price drop is due not only because of the move to HD, but the move to recording to data files instead of tape. I'm still wondering why they can't make the SPC700 with the CineSwitch Technology, 24p, and CineGamma software. And you can't tell me because it's too expensive. The freakin' HVX200 has all of those things.

Well, here's the basic formula explaining this dramatic price drop.

SDX=SD only
Cams of (near) Future=HD

Answer=Drop price on SDX, then drop SDX.

Now that they've announced that new 2/3" HD camera, I think the SDX's price drop makes a lot of sense. 2/3", HD, 720 & 1080 & 480, all at around the same price the SDX used to sell for.

Wow! Thanks, Barry! A thread just for me and my stupid indecision afflictions! I'm honored! At $16,500, I'd add the new Canon 8.5mm 20:1 for $3,700, making the package right about $20,200. I have no idea how much discount is available on the already reduced-price SDX from a dealer, but that's quite a tempting package. Wow! I just noticed, you also get a Panasonic SDI board for the camera, FREE!

Though, it's still $5,200 more than the 4:1:1 25Mbps DSR450 (with glass and bricks) and the SDX doesn't have a built-in color LCD monitor. And only a stone's throw away from the (I'm guessing), $22,000 1/2" PDW-F330 XDCAM HD. Tough choices. Thanks for the head's up, Barry!

P.S. Typing this from my ex-girlfriend's house!

Although an excellent price, I believe it also does not include a viewfinder. The 2" adds another $2.5k or so.

I thought all recent-model cameras started coming with a standard EVF and a tripod plate for years now. Aren't the days of "body-only, you also need to buy a EVF and a plate too" kinda pricing long gone?

Oh yeah, a tripod plate SHAN-TM700 will add another $500.

Sorry Barry, been out of the loop to long, what camera are you referring to?

Thanks in advance.:)

It's called something like HPC200 or HPC2000. It's been mentioned in a press release but no real details have been shared yet.
