Hey everyone

I will be shooting a trailer for a feature film that I want to shoot. The closest rental house to where I live is in Los Angeles. I have tried looking on the internet and I cannot find what I need to know, it's maddening. I am looking for a place where I would be able to buy stock and a place where I could rent a S16 silent(not noisy) camera. If anyone can give me some names of places, it would be more than appreciated as I have no idea where to go. Thanks alot.

Thanks so much. I'm only anticipating on using one 400ft roll and renting for a weekend (three days at max). I hope this doesn't cost more than $1,500!

One 400' roll of fresh new film stock from Kodak or Fuji will set you back somewhere around about $150, plus you'll pay for processing and transfer, so you should be able to get all that done for maybe $400 all told (stock, processing and transfer) depending on where you go and if you can negotiate any discounts.

Goddamn that sounds good. Thanks. If that's the case then I might be able to affort two rolls! Would the transfer be to BetaSp or DigiBeta? Oh, and how do I go about attaining the insurance that I need to rent the equipment. I want to try and get everything done before I shoot.

At that rate that'd be BetaSP; DigiBeta would be more. That's assuming 1/2 hour of transfer time at a 3:1 ratio and a $250/hour transfer suite, and 15c/foot processing, plus a little for tax & stuff.

You can spend a lot more, of course; a top-end Spirit or Millennium suite will set you back $900/hr, and rack-rate processing is somewhere around 20c/foot (it's been a while, so my numbers may be off) but even so you're looking at $150+$80+$450 = $680 total. That assumes you can get your 400' transferred in under 1/2 hour though.

for telecine look around - you can go to digibeta 150-180hr - figure 2x footage to transfer in LA at film & vdieo transfers http://www.thetransferstation.com/film.htm

or cinepost back in altanta ( www.posthouse.com) at approx 180-220hr - figure 1.5X footage ...
both houses have wet gate.

or you can go HD ( 10bit 1920x1080 24fps to hard drive) approx $14 per min film running time ... 800 ft = 22min = $308 for one light or low con transfer.
note the HD is using blackmagic codec = they can do either Qt or avi ...

at most camera rental houses you can pick up on friday 3pm ( maybe earlier if you ask) and return monday 10am for one day rental ...
