Seeking unproduced scripts

My long-suffering group of moviemakers (our first was done in 1983) has always had one major stumbling block to beginning a new production: it takes us forever to come up with script ideas.

We feel like there are a lot of scripts out there, whether good or "bad", and if any of you have anything you're sitting on that you don't know what to do with, we'd love to see it. It might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship...

Steve,

You might want to look at inktip.com. It is a great resource for searching for scripts (particularly shorts) that are looking for production.

Also, check out NYCMidnight.com, they just held a short screenplay contest this fall and there were a few hundred written. I'm sure there are some writers there who would love to share their scripts with you.

It also might help to mention what genre you are most interested in. What your budget range is. The cast. Amount of locations. CGI or No-CGI. Etc. Etc. What are your previous credits? IMDB? Do you/ your company have a website?

Help yourself by helping the writers pitch projects that have realistic possibilities of getting produced.

That would help out greatly.

I'll answer all of those by saying "budget = nil". Oh, and previous credits really won't relate... IMDb yes, which will explain why previous credits won't relate. :)

As VERY odd as it may sound, no, I don't want to do that. I'd rather have people throw random scripts at us if they have some that are gathering dust or are otherwise abandoned. I dunno, maybe I'll reconsider that... I'm being difficult, I know... :)

Hey Chris, thanks for those links. I've been sort of on the hunt for something to produce.
Cool, I hope you find something you like. There are a lot of talented writers out there looking for filmmakers to bring their words to life.

22 years of filmmaking and no one in your group can hammer out a script? Or come up with a cool idea and run with it? Zero budget makes it really tough for any script. Screenplays, as you know, are EVERYTHING. Before budget, casting, camera selection, locations...blah blah comes the story.

Concentrate on the story and write something with pre-exsisting locations you have access to and props you and your group own. I wish you luck but find it hard to believe people will just give up their hard work for a shot at a nil-budget film from a group that doesn't want to discuss their experience/credits or answer the simple and necessary questions from the other posters...

Shill66,

I did some VERY simple research, and is this you at IMDB? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0913046/

If so, I don't know why you would not want to hide it. You worked on a quality movie. I would be proud of that fact, not wanting to hide it.

crazyczech gives some great advice with working with what you've got. Writing for no budget is a hard ball situation. First off, you have to find an idea that gets everyone excited enough to be involved in the project, then secondly, you have to find an idea that can be produced for next to nothing. So normally one location and a cast of under ten comes into play. Think PANIC ROOM, SAW, RES DOGS, CABIN FEVER. More often than not horror is the prefered choice as they can sell without stars appearing in them, and are often a bunch of kids stuck somewhere with someone wanting to kill them, which can be done pretty much on the cheap.

No, that's not me. I haven't worked on a quality movie. :) (Well, relatively speaking.) I'm only in the IMDb because it was from way back before they were so restrictive about new entries.

We can and have, of course. Seems to be a stumbling block for us at the moment though.

Sounds like myself giving group sessions on how to make a low budget film.

I'm looking for someone who has already given up on their hard work and moved on to other things. If I come up with nothing, so be it.

Hey man, I have a short script that I'm not prepared to shoot. I also have the perfect place to shoot it. It's just a first draft but I think it's funny and good. Took me a month to write and it's 35 pages. It's a comedy/Action, low budget, fun script. It also carries a message. I've already re-written it in my head to make it better, more believable, more shootable. I'd like to talk to you though. Mark.

LukeJ, the original poster hasn't signed on since early January. You should PM him since he'll probably never see your post.

let me know what kind of things you're looking for e.g. 1, 10, 15, 30 , 60, 90+ min drama, docu. Genre, and what kind of things you've done in the past.
Good luck, regardless
